At the end of Chapter 12: Was their new Agency client just another ploy in Polen's bag of tricks to make him dependent on her? Emre was confused as to the purpose of Polen's actions. She would ruin his career just for the sake of having Can? What about Sanem? How far would Polen go? Could she possibly cause Sanem to run away? Can's rants were not making any sense and Leyla was concerned for her sister. He hoped Polen would leave them alone and return to London. It took a while for Can to calm down and be able to think logically. He felt sure the new client was not working under Polen's direction, so Emre suggested they continue as if nothing happened. Can then declared, "I am going to talk to Nihat tomorrow and ask for permission to marry Sanem and set our engagement date. I want to get this done before Sanem leaves in a couple of weeks. I will not let Polen cause a scene. I told Sanem I would not let anything or anyone come between us, and I mean that."

Sanem woke with an uneasy feeling. She knew it was the aftermath of Polen's visit. Her brother, Yigit, had made her squirm just from his touch. He might be a nice guy, but just knowing he was Polen's brother was enough to turn her off. She wondered why they had shown up so suddenly. Was it really because of the new client? Or was that just an excuse? Sanem's thoughts were running wild. "Well, with Polen you never know. She has her own agenda. That is the way it is with crazy people," she reasoned as she dressed for work.
Can had sent his usual morning text. "Good morning, my love. I will be at your door in 30 minutes. I miss you."
Sanem smiled and sent a text back. "Me too, my love. See you then."
Can had decided not to tell Sanem about his late-night visitor. She would become too upset. She did not need that, not with the upcoming events on her schedule. She needed to be as stress-free as possible. He would handle Polen and wondered how she could possibly think his career was in her hands. He had a great relationship with all of the commissions he had worked with and his talent spoke for itself. He was sure it was nothing more than empty threats.
As they rode to work, they chatted about everything but what was foremost in their minds... Polen. Can was laying the groundwork for an excuse to be out of the office for a while that afternoon. That was the only way he would be able to talk to Nihat without Sanem. An unexpected meeting with the agency's lawyer would allow him the time to go back to the neighborhood and talk to Nihat. It was a little white lie but a very important one. He wanted to make their engagement official and as soon as possible.
Polen and Yigit were looking at an office space for his new publishing venture. They found the perfect location, and it just so happened to be a few doors down the street from the Fikri Harika Agency. Yigit had welcomed his sister's plan. It might not work but he thought it was worth a try. Polen was definite about her plot, all in the name of love, and Polen was sure Yigit would have an interest in Sanem. Personal or professional, she really did not care which. Anything that would discredit her in Can's eyes. A little doubt about her faithfulness is all he would need.
The morning at the Agency was busy and Sanem tried to help wherever she could. She always had ideas and most were worth listening to. Can took her to have a quick lunch, as he had that imaginary meeting with the lawyer and did not want to be late. He dropped her off at the agency where she would work with Deren on the wardrobe for the cosmetic shoot. It would require several changes in different settings, so everything had to be just right.
Can then hurried to Sanem's neighborhood and straight to their family grocery store. Nihat and Mevkibe both sat in front of the store visiting with the neighbors. They were surprised to see Can pull up but he was welcomed with joy. He was nervous. He had never done anything like this before. In his memory, there had only been a few times that he had even asked a girl out on a date, let alone ask for her hand in marriage.
Nihat and Mevkibe could see Can's apprehension and knew immediately what had brought him there. He began with how much he cared for Sanem and that she meant the world to him. He would always love and protect her for the rest of his life. Mevkibe smiled and looked at her husband, remembering this day in their lives and how her father had refused to give her to Nihat. She knew how Nihat felt about Can so this would not be the case for them. They would be overjoyed to have Can as a son. After Can's long and agonizing speech, Nihat stood and smiled. He extended his hand to the man that would be his daughter's husband, confirming his approval.
Can could not wipe the smile from his face as he drove back to the office. They had agreed on an engagement date of the very next night. Can would come with flowers and candy to formally ask for Sanem's hand. Mevkibe would be the one to inform Sanem that Can was coming to affirm their union, and they would prepare everything for the evening together. Her mother was happy beyond belief for her child. She knew Can was the person designed for Sanem, and for their hearts and souls to come together as one. There was nothing better in life than seeing your children succeed.
Yigit took the lease on the offices down the street from the Agency. He felt that, all in all, it had been a profitable day. Now he needed to find out what publishing house was working with Sanem which would not be hard. Then he would find out everything he could about her schedule.
Polen was impatient to hear from Can. She knew he would be angry at first but was convinced he would come around. He always came back to her; they had a special bond. If Yigit could take care of Sanem, Can would come running back to her. She intended to let him stew about it for now and then go to see him in a couple of days. She could wait; she had all the time in the world. She had taken a leave of absence from her lab in London so there was no need to hurry the process. She would take this time to help Yigit find out all the particulars about Sanem's new book.
Can returned to the office, his heart as happy as it could be. The checklist was getting smaller. He just might pull this off despite the arrival of Polen and all the trouble she was bringing them. There was one thing he had in his mind to do and that was to talk to Victor. To see if he had any information about Polen that he should know. He knew they were old friends but it would not hurt to ask. There had to be something Can could use against her. Her using his career as a bargaining chip was not going to cut it with him. He had worked far too hard to develop his talent. He would not allow Polen to tear it down.
The day was finally over and Can and Sanem were eager to spend some time together. Can knew he needed to take Sanem home so her mother could tell her about the engagement for the following night. There were certain preparations that could be handled before the party and Can did not want any mistakes. So, he reluctantly drove Sanem home with her pouting all the way. He had lied and told her he had plans to watch a sporting event at a local sports bar with a couple of old friends. He would text or call her when he got home. They said their good nights and he was on his way.
Sanem was met by her mother at the door. "Sanem we have to hurry," Mevkibe said as she was rushing around. "There are many things to do to get ready."
Sanem had no idea what Mevkibe was talking about. "Ready for what, anne?" she asked
"Well, for tomorrow night, of course. Can will call on us to ask for your hand, and we must be ready."
"Can? Tomorrow night? Here? Oh my god, he's really going to do it!"
