At the end of Chapter 1: The exciting news of Sanem and Can's arrival had made its way to the small grocery store owned by the Aydin family. Her father, Nihat, rushed home to see if the news was true. The bond between this father and daughter was a special one. Nihat's love for Sanem was deep and unconditional. When Nihat saw Sanem and held her in his arms, their reunion brought many more tears of joy. The family was whole again. Nihat turned to Can with a look of great relief and appreciation. The reunion had been a joyous event. Mevkibe and Nihat had both thanked Can repeatedly for bringing Sanem home. In all of the excitement, Mevkibe had completely forgotten about their dinner. Half of the dinner was ready and she scurried around to finish the rest of the meal and insisted that Can stay for dinner. He had hoped to take Sanem home with him for the evening but could hardly refuse Mevkibe's invitation. So, he graciously accepted and settled down for dinner.
They ate, talked, and laughed together and Mevkibe shed more tears of joy as the evening wore on. It seemed Can's plan might not work out but he was determined to try and make it happen. As they finished the meal with tea, Can finally had the opportunity to ask Nihat for permission to take Sanem to his house so they could surprise Leyla and Emre. He assured them he would bring her home before it was too late. At first Nihat was hesitant to agree, but with a look from Mevkibe and a wink of her eye, he consented for Sanem to go. Can was eager to go so they said their good byes and he hurried Sanem out the door, promising to have her back soon.
They grabbed a taxi excited to get to Can's house and see Leyla and Emre. The 45-minute drive was miserable though as they tried to keep their distance in the back of the taxi. Holding her hand was the extent of their physical contact. When they finally arrived at Can's house, he grabbed his bag and they Can used his key to open the door. Emre and Leyla were lounging on the sofa watching a movie.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Emre turned and seeing Can, he jumped up with excitement. "Brother, you're home. How did it go?" Then Sanem stepped out from behind Can, waving her hands and calling out, "Surprise!" Both Emre and Leila screamed in shock. Leyla rushed to her sister and hugged her tightly. More tears and laughing between the sisters then Sanem received an affectionate hug from Emre. Upset that she had not let them know she was coming home, Leyla scolded her. "Do mom and dad know you are home?" Sanem told her they had gone there first, visited and had dinner with her parents and then come here to surprise her and Emre.
Leyla had a million questions but a knowing look between the brothers relayed the message that all questions could wait until tomorrow. Can was ready for some alone time with the woman he loved. Emre quickly shooed his wife out of the room, explaining she could do all the talking she wanted tomorrow. "Let's let them have some time, OK?" Emre said, with a wink.
Can and Sanem moved out to the garden, their favorite place. It was warm and inviting under the stars. Can could not get enough of her. He wanted to stick to her like a magnet and never let go. Sanem's heart was full and happy. This moment had been a long time coming and she wanted it to last forever. They cuddled together on a lounge on the patio and talked about the future, vowing to never let anything come between them again.
His touch brought her to a place where Sanem wanted to stay forever. She was home and she loved it. The way Can looked at her filled her heart and erased any doubt about their relationship. His look of love was all she would need to make her whole. Their time together flew by and before they knew it was very late and time for Can to take her home to her parents. They desperately wanted to hold on to each other for the rest of the night, but Can had made a promise to Nihat and he intended to keep it. He knew this would make things easier down the road. He did drive extra slow though taking Sanem home, devouring her smell as she lay her head on his shoulder. It had been so long since he had felt this calm, peaceful and relaxed. God, if she only knew what she did to him. A life with Sanem was what he wanted and what he would have.
Their goodbye at the door to her parents' house was agonizing. Can's need to kiss her was overwhelming but it would be frowned upon here in her neighborhood. He felt sure every available eye was on them anyway as they said goodnight. A quick kiss on the cheek and her hand would have to do. The look that blazed from his eyes into hers said so much more. Sanem shuddered as Can breathed in her smell one last time before turning and heading for his truck. " Oh my," she thought, "I have a field of butterflies in my stomach tonight, and nowhere for them to go." All of these powerful feelings. What were they to do with them?
Can made it back home. But Sanem's beautiful scent was still so strong and potent inside him that he felt restless. He changed into his swim shorts and dove into the pool, hoping to swim enough laps to release the tension that had a grip on him. This was going to be a very long night. His workout lasted about an hour before he was finally exhausted and ready to sleep. He decided to have a drink before turning in, just to shut off his mind. But he knew his night would be full of Sanem inhabiting his dreams.
He took the drink to his bedroom and grabbed his phone to send her a text goodnight. Before he could. his phone rang and he saw it was Sanem. He answered quickly with an exuberant, "Hello, my love. I was just thinking about you. You must be reading my mind."
Sanem laughed and whispered, "You are all I've had on my mind since you dropped me off. I have to whisper so I won't wake up mom and dad. How are we going to do this?" she asked. "I think I might loss my mind."
Can laughed. "I hardly think I'm going to let you do that. How would it look to be this much in love with a crazy woman?"
Just the sound of his voice heated Sanem's soul. This man had such a pull on her heart, she feared she would lose it for sure.
Can listened to her breathe, sure that he could feel her breath through the phone. Yes, this was for sure going to put him through the biggest test of his life.
Then Sanem said, "Can, maybe we should hang up now."
