At the end of Chapter 10:  Polen was taking it all in and the wheels in her head were turning. This situation might just come in handy later. She could see the glint in her brother's eyes when he looked at Sanem. How perfect, she thought. If there was anything she had learned over the years, it was to always trust your first instincts. To get Can back, she would first need to distract Sanem. Maybe with a person who could shower her with a wealth of attention and offer her all the dreams she had of becoming a famous writer. Who else to do that but a loving brother that would do anything for his sister? This naive little girl from the district would not know what hit her... until it was too late.

Sanem was uncomfortable with so much flattery being thrown around. Even Polen was singing her praises and telling Yigit how talented she thought Sanem was. Can finally stood, announcing they had a lot of work to do. He thanked Polen for sending the new clients their way. She also stood, reached out for his hand and then moved in for a hug. As always, she looked towards Sanem, measuring the effect of her actions, and kissed Can on the cheek. With a smug smile, she nodded a goodbye at Sanem.

Yigit shook Can's hand then he reached for Sanem's hand. He took her hand in his, bowed towards her as if she were royalty, and kissed her hand giving her a lingering look. Can felt his anger rise. He did not like this game they were playing. With that done, they made their way to the elevator. Polen was wearing a confident look as if she had just won the lottery.

Sanem thought, "Why does she look like that? So sure of herself. If she thinks she has any chance of getting Can back, she is sadly mistaken. I am not going to roll over and play dead."

Still the look in Polen's eyes sent a wave of fear through Sanem. Her skin was suddenly covered in goosebumps, like the ones you get from watching a horror movie. "This woman is not going to give up, but then neither am I," thought Sanem.

As the elevator doors closed, Yigit saw the look of intimidation come from Sanem again. He knew his sister. Determination was always Polen's strong point. He felt a slight twinge of guilt at the thought.

Can shook his head in disbelief and turned to Sanem, " They are quite the pair, don't you think? Yigit is a charmer but kinda creepy though," he remarked sarcastically. He looked at Sanem waiting for her agreement, but she was staring blankly at the elevator.

"Sanem, bebek, are you ok?"

Sanem blinked her eyes, realizing he was speaking to her. She looked at Can in confusion thinking, "Surely Can can see the need to fear Polen. Or was he blind to it? Or was she just being paranoid?"

Sanem smiled at him quickly and answered, "I am fine, my love. Yes, they are quite the pair."

They headed back to his office. Sanem needed to tell him about the call from Ahmet, but she was second-guessing the whole process now. Can had shaken off the entire encounter with Polen and Yigit and was diving back into his work. The photoshoot was sent to the cosmetic company, and they had been informed of the changes in the model choice.

Things were good...or were they?

As Polen and Yigit got into his car, he knew his sister was full of ideas and bursting to tell him of her schemes. At times he was a little scared of her because her thinking could become vindictive at times. She was very good at getting even.

Polen smiled at Yigit and asked, "Well, what did you think of Sanem? Quite beautiful and very talented, don't you agree?"

Yigit stared at her and replied, "And she is very much taken from what I can see."

Polen smiled. "What is your point? That is a minor detail. As far as I could see, there is no ring on her finger. So, maybe it is nothing serious."

Yigit let that sink in for a minute. Maybe Polen was right. It could be a win-win situation for both of them. She would get Can back and he could have the top-named Turkish author in his publishing house. Hmmm, it was worth thinking about.

Sanem was totally distracted and nervous, pacing back and forth. Can looked up at her with concern.

"Sanem, would you stop worrying about them? They are gone. Come and sit down."

Can turned his chair and motioned for her to sit on his lap. She quickly looked around to see if anyone was watching, then curled up in his lap and let him soothe her. His touch always had a calming effect on her like nothing else could or ever did.

"I am so safe," she thought. "How will I feel calm like this if I am in another country, away from him and his comforting touch. I don't know if I can do this."

Can stroked her hair and could feel Sanem relax. He knew she worried too much about Polen, but he would feel the same way if the tables were turned. It angered him just to see Yigit kiss her hand the way he did. He would not allow anything or anyone to come between them.

Can closed his eyes. With Sanem snuggled and calm in his lap, he let his mind wander. He thought about the beautiful ring he had just bought and how happy she would be when she saw it. Right now, his life was the best it had ever been. He was happy, despite all the trouble with the agency and the arrival of Polen. Actually, his heart was full and running over with love. His life was just beginning. Everything before now had just been pretend, a non-existent reason to live. Now their lives would be as one, sealed together with a bond that would last forever. He would find time to get away and talk to Nihat, and it had to be soon.

Sanem broke the silence and uttered, "Ahmet needs me in Greece a week earlier than expected. I have been invited to a Writers' Forum."

Can's eyes opened wide hearing her words. "What? How would it be possible to get everything done in two weeks?"

Sanem lifted her head from his shoulder and looked into Can's eyes. They were sad and full of longing. His need to keep her with him surrounded her. He knew it would be hard to let her go but he wanted her to be the best she could be. They would make the separation work. They had to make it work.

"When did you find out," Can asked.

"That was the phone call I just received," Sanem responded. "They want me in Athens in two weeks. The Writers' Forum will last for three days. Then we go on to Thessaloniki for the book release and signing. Do you think you can at least make it to the book signing?"

Can kissed her cheek. "Let them just try and keep me away. Yes, I would not miss it for the world."

Sanem gently kissed him. It refreshed her and made her feel strong. She knew Can was hers and hers alone, but the loneliness she would feel not being in his arms was already causing her to panic. With Polen here, she would need to pull all the trust she had to the front of her mind. Let her soul be in control of her heart.

This was her time, and she knew Can would be there for her... no matter what.
