They cuddled up in one another's arms and sat there gazing into each other's eyes the food was somewhat good.
"Where were you when Michael was here." April mouthed with a chunk of fries in her mouth.
"Well if you must know, my father was here." his expressions turned grey.
"Wait what? Your dad was here, why?" she sat up.
"He just asked me to sign him some papers and then he shook my hand and left." he kept the event brief.
"So just like that? He just left?" April truly felt like she had no words left in her vocabulary.
"Yeah just like that."
"Adrian, I'm so sorry, I truly have no words, you don't deserve any of that."
"Don't worry about it Ace, I'm used to it, let's just enjoy our night."
April agreed she did not, in any way make him want to feel any more pain than he already had.
"Adrian, thank you, you really are the best-" she stops herself, she wanted to call him her boyfriend so bad, but they hadn't talked about that yet..
"Best what Ace? He smirks. "You can call me your boyfriend it's not like it's a bad word or anything."
She smiles and says it again.
"You really are the best boyfriend."
He grabs her waist and pulls her in gazing into her clear eyes, never in his life had he felt more complete, he then lifted her chin and kissed her like never before.
They went back to their room and snuggled on the couch, Adrian grabbed his favorite book and began reading to her until she fell asleep in his arms
April woke up the next morning on the couch wrapped in a light green blanket. Adrian wasn't there, pacing around the room she notices a huge stack of documents on Adrian's side.
Eager to find out what they were April began scanning them slowly with her eyes.
Adrian had signed DNR ( do not resuscitate) papers, her entire body dropped to the floor the papers in hand, it felt as if she were deprived of oxygen for a while.
The door opened, Adrian found a crying April on her knees.
"April what's wrong?" he began to panic thinking something had happened to her.
She didn't respond and simply handed the papers so he could see for himself letting out a sigh.
Adrian had never meant for her to see those.
"You signed DNR why Adrian?" she finally spoke up.
"You were never meant to see those."
"Well I've seen them, why did you sign these?"
"Because Ace, if my heart were to stop I would never want to be hooked up to a machine for the rest of my life." He replied.
"Okay but what about me? Didn't you think about how I would feel about this? Did I even cross your mind while making this decision?" her eyes were two bucket ok water.
"I signed these way before I met you." He lets her know.
"And now that you have met me, does that impact your decision at all?" she insists on knowing.
Adrian stays silent, no it wouldn't impact his decision, she gave him even more of a reason to sign the papers.
"Wow Adrian, I'm glad I mean absolutely nothing to you!" she swallows her saliva and wipes her tears.
"This is what's best, it's what is best for you." his eyes begin to water.
"How does this benefit me in any way?!" the mild idea of him gone hurt her, it hurt her more than anything else.
"I wouldn't want to be on a machine stopping you from moving on, making you feel any guilt from moving on, because you should move on."
"I would have gladly sat next to you and held your hand until your last dying breath, but you didn't even consider to ask me did you?" he remains silent. "Clearly not."
"Ace, listen let's talk about this okay?"
"I'm sick and tired of talking about things, I need some air." She got up and closed the door shut behind her. She was in pain, emotionally because of what went down with Adrian and physically because of her bruises that hadn't healed yet.
She did not even want to think about losing Adrian, it may have been a few days, but for a girl who has been in a car accident and has forgotten everyone she's ever loved a source of comfort was her only desire, and she had grown to care for him more than anyone else. It was selfish but she couldn't turn back time now.
She sat outside on a bench in the cold freezing to death.
She notices Jayden and Lexie dropping by.
-"Hey you guys, what are you doing here?" she fakes a smile.
-"Are you okay?" Jayden suspects something fishy was going on.
-"Yeah totally." she makes it almost believable.
-"Oookay then, how do you feel about sneaking out tonight." Lexie quickly changed the conversation.
April was not in the mood for anything and sneaking out sounded like the worst idea but she did need a good time after this horrible day so she agreed.
"Wow April, that accident really changed you, your old self could never, will swing by at ten." Jayden pointed out.
"Deal."
April spent the rest of her day in the cafeteria trying her best to avoid Adrian at all costs, because even if she were to see him she would not know what to say.
She hung out with her parents for a while and it wasn't much later that Lavender dragged her with her to Lily's room.
April hadn't noticed the time flying by, it was already 9:50pm. She got up and headed straight to her room to change making sure Adrian wasn't there beforehand, where could he have gone?
The girls knocked on her window ten minutes later, they were right on time. All three of them went down the fire escape together, April was slowing them down, she was in agonizing pain but she pushed through.
Lexie And Jayden accompanied April to a random, creepy, old park. There wasn't a soul anywhere.
They all sat down while Lexie took out three sandwiches from her bag. They talked a lot, April not so much her mind was elsewhere.
Everything was pretty basic no major news was spilled until Jayden got up to announce.
"I have something I want to share with you guys and it may come as a shock to you-" Lexie cuts her off.
"Did Mark ask you out!?" she blurts out.
"Yes how did you know?"
"About time!" April cries out.
The rest of the night was a blast, it was already one in the morning so April had to get back before anyone got too suspicious.
As she headed inside, there were loud noises coming from her room and as she came closer she notices nurses and doctors running in and out. April runs after them.
Adrian was on the ground passed out, he was bleeding, it seemed like the blood was coming out of his entire body, April couldn't locate it's persisted spot, one of his wounds must have opened.
She ran inside to take a look but her favorite nurse took her outside.
"Oh lord child, where the hell have you been?" she asks worried.
"Um, vending machine-"she stutters barely paying attention to her.
Adrian was now being rolled out of the room immediately into an OR. April was now actively swallowing the hysteria tickling in her throat, never in her life has she been this scared, her body drops to its knees while endless droplets of water ran through her freckled cheeks thinking of how their last conversation went.
If his heart stopped in that surgery, it would all be over...
