(A Surprise Meeting )

The early hours of the morning cast dim moonlight across my room, creating a serene atmosphere. With a sigh, I pushed myself out of bed, groggy and annoyed at the early hour. Sitting up, I glanced toward the source of the moonlight, a picture frame on the wall. I reached out to find my cassette player, eager for some music to accompany my morning routine. After inserting the headphones into my ears, I hit the play button and stretched my arms.

As the tunes from an '80s playlist filled my ears, I crossed the room to fetch my school uniform from a drawer. After dressing, I couldn't help but pause and gaze at a framed photo on my bedside table. "Today's another day," I murmured softly, my voice filled with a sense of longing. "I miss you, Mom."

Leaving the photo behind, I walked to my door, opening it and stepping into the hallway. My footsteps echoed lightly as I padded down the wooden floor. I navigated past my younger brother's room, my dad currently away on a business trip. My responsibilities included helping with my five-year-old half-brother, Luke, who had no qualms about banging on the bathroom door when I spent too long inside.

In the bathroom, I turned on the shower, letting the hot water wash over me, providing a comforting embrace. As I gazed at my light brown skin in the reflection, water cascading down, I couldn't help but contemplate. My hair, straightened by the water, hung down to my shoulders, displaying its natural curls and waves. I ran my fingers through it, trying to ease out the tangles.

An impatient knock at the door, followed by Luke's voice, interrupted my thoughts. "SISSY, COME ON, DON'T HOG THE WATER!"

Reluctantly, I turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. Wrapping a towel around my shoulders, I emerged from the bathroom, ready to face the day. I stopped in front of the mirror, wiping away the condensation. "When was the last time I did my hair?" I muttered to myself as I finished getting ready.

With my cassette player in hand and my hair half-braided and adorned with tiny flowers, I made my way to the kitchen, sliding my dirty laundry into a basket. "I swear one day someone's going to question that," I mused, noticing the trail of flowers Bell left behind as she floated nearby. "It would be nice not to be noticed by people sometimes."

I finished my morning routine and left for school. As I approached the gate and pushed it open, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for my hometown, Hawaii. I exchanged greetings with Mrs. Holly, who had become like a second mother to me during my time in Japan. However, my heart ached at the absence of her son, Jotaro.

As I entered Mrs. Holly's house, I looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Jotaro. "Good morning, Celest!" she greeted me, her smile warm.

"Good morning," I replied. "How was your morning so far?"

"It's off to a fine start," she said with a gentle smile.

I glanced at the door, silently asking if he was still absent. She nodded slightly, confirming my unspoken question. Sighing, I kissed Mrs. Holly on the cheek, then headed toward the door. "Have a good day, Celest!" she called after me.

"You too, Mama Holly!" I replied with a smile.

As I left her house, I signaled to Bell to appear and continued on my way to school.

...

Arriving at school, I turned to look at Bell and gave her a sign to remain invisible as she left a trail of flowers behind. Then, I entered the bustling school building. The halls were filled with the chatter and laughter of students, and I forced a smile, determined not to appear lonely.

I slid open the door to my classroom, greeted my teacher with a polite "Good morning, sensei," and took my seat. I retrieved my completed work from my bag, a habit I had formed by finishing assignments ahead of time.
