Narrator's pov

-

"What do you mean by that?" Gabrielle mumbled

"Are you serious right now?" the brunette asked

"what are you done with?"

"YOUR BULLSHIT GABRIELLE" Ember hissed, causing all heads to turn in her direction

The dinner guests are raised their brows as they stared back and forth between the two girls

Gabrielle's cheeks burned brightly from embarrassment as she held her head down low

Ember on the other hand matched their energies as she gave each and ever single person there a death glare

"You know what" Ember hissed, pushing back her chair

Gabrielle furrowed her brows and leaned up to face the girl, seeing that she threw her napkin down onto the table and was starting to walk away

It was Ember's breaking point and she needed to be as far away as possible from people before she embarrassed herself even more

What little dignity she had left for the night, she wanted to salvage it

Inside her veins felt hot like the rage charging through her. First she fell for someone she couldn't have

Her heart told her to stop yet she still broke her rules and fell for the girl harder than she's ever fallen for anyone before

Then when things finally seem to go her way, someone waltz in and takes away her happiness. It was like dangling sweets in front of a toddlers face and watching their eyes fill with hope. When their hands reach out to finally take it, it's gone and there was nothing they could do about it

Each disaster kept piling on, she started to question what the hell she was doing with that barisster in the first place. She didn't want to lead the girl on but some part of her protected that want, that desire onto the girl. Since she couldn't get what she actually wanted, she moved to someone else that she didn't

Which only played out badly in the end

Then her parents come out of nowhere and pulls this bullshit stunt

Now all of a sudden, she needs to quit her future and force herself to manage thousands of people

Something she surely wasn't ready for, but her parents seem to find a way to trap her into their little scheme

So yes, the blood inside her veins was boiling. Her teeth shattered slightly as her fists clenched together tight. The girl's breathing huffed and puffed like she was going to blow the house down

But this little piggy simply had anxiety

The girl walked through the dim hallways that she grew up in

Those walls held secrets that she buried deep down inside herself, never wanting to remember

The fights, the arguments, everything was hidden behind those walls and she's never looked back on it since she left

Walking down those halls felt nostalgic in a way and heavy. Ember's fingers ran over the smooth textured walls as her feet echoed through the empty hallway

She couldn't help but wonder what her old room must look like now. Did they throw everything out to turn it into a gym or did they leave it neatly packed, awaiting for her arrival back home even if it was just a visit

When she was younger, fun wasn't an option. But she still had her imagination. She was always trapped in a room with her tutors but she imagined what it would have been like, being a kid who was joyful

A kid who's cheeks were always stained red and not from frustration and scoldings from her teachers, but from running around in the open grass and taking on the sun that would beam down on her heavily

There was a song in the walls of the house that raised her spirits in quiet moments when she used her imagination. When the wind became still air and it sounded as if the world had paused just for a few seconds to take a moment to breathe from the stress of her teachers and parents breathing down her back to focus on molecules

In those silent thoughts, in the purity of its expression, she found her inner peace and realise that her home was only a home in her imagination

The house was welcoming from the open door for any stranger who walked past it. To the wide hallways, upon the walls were the photographs of them, so obviously so loved with a fake smile for guests to take in. The floor was an old-fashioned parquet with a blend of deep homely browns and the walls were the greens of summer gardens meeting a bold white baseboard. The banister was a twirl of a branch, tamed by the carpenter's hand, it's grain flowing as water might, in waves of comforting woodland hues. Under the lamp-shine it was nature's art, something that soothed right to the soul

Yes, it was welcoming to any who didn't know the truth

Ember pushed lightly on the familiar door, it squealed slightly as she walked into the room

The room was like a perfect magazine cover, just as it always was. She was thought to keep things in order and never have her life filled with clutter or be messy. Such advice she would go on to disregard in her life

The couch was cream but inlaid with a fine green silk, the white curtains were linen, the kind of white that was untouched by hands and devoid of dust. A cursory look to the right shows her the almost hidden cords that were used to open and close them

There is no television, but a bookshelf with all of her textbooks,

The chairs arranged around the brick fireplace that lept with a gas flame. The photographs were black and white, not casual family snaps, but arranged to look like such by a professional. Must be a never addiction to her room after she left. The floor was a high polished wood, dark and free of either dust or clutter

Just the way she remembered. Ember smiled sweetly at the image, her room was her sacred place where she had the luxury of privacy

Even if it was just for an hour

She would sail her mind away on her bed and hide colouring books under the sheets, the ones the maid would bring her because they knew of the stress she faced every single day

Ember's fingers brushed against the bookshelf as she stored between the books, a smile met her lips when they landed on the colouring book she hid away between the novels

"Hey old friend" the girl chuckled as she started to flip through the pages

Memories were flooding through the girl's mind, racing with her thoughts. Being back in the old house was bringing back feelings she really didn't want to feel

But knew she'd feel it again eventually

It was great being alone, she was accustomed to it. As well as she was accustomed to pressure and heartbreak and constantly being fucked over

She was accustomed to it all. Ember prepared herself for her next steps and she hated when things would jump out and surprise her

So when the girl heard a small squeak come from her room door, she was surprised to see who it was standing there

"What the fuck are you doing here"
