Blood and Dirt

Mikey’s POV

A girl, about the same age as me appeared out of the shadows. She was pretty, well, except for the blood and dirt that streaked her angular face, she had the sharpest blue eyes; ones that you could stare at for hours, her brown hair tied loosely behind her, some strands falling down beside her face. She looked very angelic, dirty but angelic.

Another girl emerged beside her, her round face also streaked with blood and dirt. Her blue eyes wide with fear, and her black hair untied and a little greasy. She was smaller than the first girl.

“Um... hi. Erm... my name is Mia, Mia Lancaster. And, this is my friend Autumn Ferguson. We were in a hotel in Norwich, when the bombs hit, we had to leave, everyone had gone crazy! Can you help us?” The first girl said.

What do we do? We can’t leave these poor girls standing. And they certainly don’t look crazy. Dave looks at me questionably, I looked at him, and he allowed the girls in.

Mia’s POV

“Oh, thank you so much!” I said gratefully as me and Autumn descended the basement stairs, the two men behind us. As we reached the bottom of the stairs we found three other men crowded around a little fire, it was lovely and warm, and the smell of food was inviting.

“What is this? Who are they?” Said one of the men.

“Calm it, Sam. They need our help. Look at them! They’re dying of hunger and thirst! We can’t just leave them!” Said the ginger man.

“Hang on... I... I recognize you guys... Are you guys in a band? Oh! You guys are Mallory Knox! Aren’t you?” Autumn asked excitedly.

“Yes, we are. In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m Mikey.” He said, chuckling.

“And, I’m guessing you know the rest of the team.” Mikey said amusement in his voice.

“Yes we do! Oh my god! I love you guy’s sooooo much! Can I ge-“

“Autumn, sit down and stop being an arsehole. So, ‘cause Mallory are here you jump around like your feet are springs, but when we were outside, with the threat of someone scooping our eyeballs out with their fingernails, you slow the hell down. No. Calm down and just chill. We’ve been walking for two and a half days, we have barely stopped and we haven’t slept at all, please. Stop moving for five bloody minutes!” I yelled. I saw the hurt in Autumns eyes.

“Look, I’m sorry, Autumn. I’m really tired, and thirsty and hungry.” Autumn sat back down a little disappointed.

Mikey came over to us with two little bottles of water and a plate of some food each. We thanked him and we all sat in silence to eat and drink our food and water. Once we finished, Sam took our plates and empty bottles and sat them next to the rest of the dishes, not taking his eyes off Autumn.

“Thank you, guys! In the morning we’ll leave, and you won’t have to hear or see from us again.” I said. Stomach full of food, and fully hydrated.

“No!” Mikey yelled. “No. You don’t need too. You guys can stay. Really, it’s no problem!”

“Are you sure, I mean, you guys have little resources, we will only be using it up!” I said.

“Really, it’s no trouble. I mean, you guys barely have anything! Plus, you’ll have protection of five insanely hot guys! Seriously, don’t go.” Mikey said looking pleadingly at me.

“Okay, fine,” I said with a wide grin on my face. “But if your resources run out faster, don’t blame us, okay?”

“Okay.” Mikey replied, returning the wide grin.

God, he’s beautiful...” I thought to myself staring at him. He caught me staring and I quickly looked away.

Mikey offered me his sleeping bag, and Sam offered Autumn, but I was clever enough to bring our own. We all settled in and soon Dave’s snores filled the basement, and before I drifted off to sleep, I saw Mikey looking at me. I mouthed “Goodnight.” And he returned. I drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
