Azuki sat at the regular table at lunch. "I'm telling you man, this up and coming Mount Lady is the next Midnight" exclaimed Mazi.
"Really? I mean I'm not the kind of person to care but hasn't Midnight always kept ahead of other female hero's that went for that sort of thing, like Uwabami for example." Azuki said, trying to make this a normal conversation with his friend.
Mazi shook his head, frustrated that Azuki wasn't seeing the bigger picture. "Uwabami was never even a contender to replace Midnight, what guy would be kinky enough to have the hots for a woman with literal snakes for hair? Mount lady is different, in terms of straight appeal and curves she has Midnight beat." Mazi explained. He had always taken his women seriously.
"Well if Midnight could make herself grow, I'm sure Midnight would blow Mount Lady out of the water" Azuki said, sighing that this is the conversation Mazi decided to have.
"Well yeah of course, but beggars can't be choosers, also another point I have is-" Azuki interjected "Can we talk about something else? I'm not really feeling like talking about these particular female heroes".
Truth was Azuki never really felt like discussing female heroes and which ones looked better with Mazi, but they were the only two who sat at this table. Azuki humored his friend because he knew Mazi would find some poor random sap to have this conversation with.
"Well what do you want to talk about then? BuRd's??" Mazi said, his flat voice mocking him.
"No, not exactly, I'd just rather talk about something else on my birthday" Azuki said wistfully. Mazi's head turned just slightly to his right, Azuki had in time come to realize this was Mazi's tell of when he was being caring or serious.
It had been seven months since Azuki started middle school. In this time Azuki had made one friend, which was the cactus headed kid sitting at his table, Mazi Kakutasu. Mazi wouldn't have been Azuki's first choice, but it just seemed to work out.
Mazi's jaded non caring attitude meshed well with Azuki's more quiet laidback personality. Mazi could say whatever was on his mind, be it about the female pro hero he would want to hook up with the most or his theory on how Endeavor shaves his fire mustache. This allowed Azuki to have someone to keep him company while he was at school.
Also, Azuki and Mazi both have quirks that disable them from eating so that played a big factor as neither of them wanted to watch other people eat.
"I-I knew it was your birthday" Mazi said, making it quite obvious that he had no idea it was Azuki's birthday. "I mean I was gonna tell you happy birthday when I gave you my present but it looks like you don't have any patience" Mazi said, while scrounging through his bag, presumably trying to find something last second to give Azuki.
"Mazi it's fine, you don't have to worry" Azuki stated.
"Do you even know when my birthday is? I don't know why you think your so entitled" Mazi remarked.
"April eighteenth" Azuki said simply. Mazi stopped rummaging through his bag for a second to look at Azuki.
Without looking down at his bag he took out what looked like a small Ectoplasm action figure. "See, this is a perfect present for you, now that's just one more thing you can possess and add to your army" Mazi stated.
Azuki put his head between his hands and sighed. "What in Kamui wood's green earth are you talking about" Azuki said, still in disbelief they haven't had an actual conversation yet.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about, don't play dumb with me. I'm the dumb one here, there can't be two of us or else our friendship dynamic is broken" yammered Mazi. Azuki motioned for Mazi to continue with his point.
