Azuki sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands, his legs rapidly bouncing in anticipation and anxiety. Mushi and Bado were just starting their morning routine, Mushi flying around and chirping trying to get his cage mate to wake up while Bado grumpily tried to stay asleep.
For once Azuki didn't try to get Mushi to calm down or Bado to wake up, in fact he barely noticed their antics. In a couple hours, he would be attending his first classes at UA, which would change his life forever. It was all he could think about, it's all he wanted to think about, as the other option was much worse.
Azuki unconsciously looked at his blinds, before snapping his head back to the floor. Don't think about it Azuki, not right now, it's not important he frantically thought, trying to keep the thoughts of the past from rising up.
Luckily there was knock on his door, followed by a "You mind if we come in Azuki?".
"No" was all Azuki replied to his dad. The door opened and his father and mother walked in, his mother up and ready, her hair combed and awake.
She sat next to him and hugged him. Azuki could almost swear his metal was creaking due to the pressure she exerted.
His father, black hair a complete mess along with his clothes, held a huge mug of coffee and sat down on Azuki's chair. He pushed up his new glasses, as they were about to fall off his face. He had been prescribed glasses because his eyesight wasn't what it used to be and he needed to have good eyesight if he was going to be one of the lead engineers at his company.
"How are you doing Zuki?" His mother asked worryingly as she sat up and put her hand on his shoulder.
He shrugged "I'm doing fine, there's nothing to worry about" which was obviously not true but it was the only thing he felt comfortable in saying.
"You know that's not true and so do we Azuki" his father stated before taking a large swig of his coffee.
Azuki sighed knowing that he was not doing fine, he just didn't want to admit it to himself."Ever since that day Mazi brought you home, you've been so downtrodden and not like yourself, your always so upbeat and determined, it worries me and your father to see you this way" his mother said.
His father nodded before stating "Also you won't hardly go outside and when you do it's always when it's dark or the sun is setting. I can't even imagine what you went through but you can't let it deter you from the path you worked so hard for".
"It's not going to deter me, I will become a hero, one of the best. I just...I just needed some alone time, time to think on what the future would entail" Azuki insisted.
"Well, what did you decide on?" His father asked.
"I don't want to talk about it" Azuki mumbled.
"Please Azuki, can we-" was all his mother said before Azuki interrupted her by declaring "No, I don't want to talk about it".
His parents exchanged worried looks, it being plain to see that they wanted to help him, but Azuki couldn't divulge to anyone what he had thought and decided during his time in the dark.
After Azuki was brought home by Mazi on that day, he had hardly left his house or went out into the sunlight, wanting to forget the feeling he was granted for a few blessed seconds.
Azuki would still train with Mazi occasionally, but it was always at dusk or night, so the sun wouldn't be there to distract or hinder him.
Thanks to the absence of the sun, Azuki for the most part was able to recover and push past his sadness and despair. There was a point, a moment where his determination faltered and he thought of giving it all up, questioning the point of it all.
