"Azuuuki! Mazi's here to see you!" called his mother from the kitchen. Mazi soon entered his doorway, standing awkwardly as if waiting for Azuki's permission to sit down. In his hand he held a glass of water. Azuki stopped playing his bass to signal at the spot next to him on his bed."You can sit down ya know?" Azuki stated, for once not wanting to deal with Mazi's shyness when he came to his house.
Mazi sat down on his bed and looked over at the bird cage on the nightstand. "So uh, are those two mush and emo?" pointing at Azuki's animal companions.
"No Mazi, it's Mushi and Bado. The bigger one is Bado and Mushi is the energetic one" Azuki explained, putting away his bass.
"Tomato, potato. It's close enough isn't it?" Questioned Mazi, disinterested by Azuki's animals. He then started to gradually pour the glass of water on the pink flower that was located on his head.
The first time this had ever happened, needless to say Azuki freaked out, but it had become a customary routine. Seeing how Mazi couldn't eat to get energy, he had to get it just like a plant would, with basic photosynthesis. With water and some sunlight, Mazi was good to go, most of the time.
Azuki was unconcerned at the mess the water made as it ran down Mazi's head and onto his bed. The first time this happened Azuki was flabbergasted and started getting on Mazi for creating a mess. Mazi however pointed out that Azuki couldn't feel the water nor did he actually sleep in his bed, causing the situation to diffuse.
"Is it just me or is it every time you come over here you act like you just met me and my parents?" Azuki questioned.
Mazi shrugged "Adults make me anxious, I always feel like they're gonna tell me to do something productive. Your mom makes me nervous, but for different reasons" Mazi finished, his head tilted downwards looking straight at Azuki.
Azuki sat there in confusion for a moment before Mazi explained "You probably can't tell, but my eyebrows are bouncing up and down".
"Gross! I'm gonna pretend you didn't say that!" Azuki declared shaking his head in disgust.
Mazi shrugged slyly "What can I say, your mom is". That was he could get out before Azuki exclaimed "Not another word! Not another word". Mazi chuckled to himself, amused at the uncomfortableness he had caused.
"Ya know, when I go over to your house, you don't see me ogling your mom do you?" Azuki stated.
Mazi tilted his head in obvious confusion and muttered "But you've never been to my house?".
"Well if I did that's what I like to think would happen" responded Azuki.
Despite their many years of friendship, Azuki had never once been to Mazi's house. He knew little to nothing about his parents or his family, but Azuki assumed they'd have to be pretty interesting if Mazi's personality was any indicator.
After a brief moment of silence between the two Azuki finally asked "So what'd you want to talk about?" before promptly sitting down on the bed next to Mazi.
"Well you know of course...the thing, how'd you do?" Mazi stammered out.
"Oh you mean the practical exam?".
"Yeah that thing".
"Well, it was just a bunch of math and reading questions, it was like the school final but much harder. I'm not worried about that, I spent far to many nights studying to fail it." Azuki explained.
Mazi shook his head from side to side. "No the other thing".
"Oh that thing...I'd rather not talk about it" Azuki stated, trying to find something to change the conversation.
