Marina couldn't believe what her eyes were seeing. A pack of wild dogs she knew not were wolves dashed across the fields. There were human screams of horror and terror as twenty dogs jumped on several people, and Marina turned her eyes away when the snarl of growling did to human flesh.
The teeth of a dog were much the same as a siren's teeth. The sight was too much to bear for her. Long as she saw sirens eat people and now the pack of black dogs running wildly against the village Marina hoped to be living in or find some home to live in. Now she may not have a home now.
She knew the kind of creatures the dogs were: a pack of wild dogs. Another form of legend Marina heard when she lived with the sirens. Black dogs long were demonic ghosts of the dead reincarnated into the form of a dog, but with strength far more powerful than human strength. They are thought to be ghosts meant to be incarnated in dogs to bring humans down into a dark abyss where there would be no everlasting peace and prosperity, and one bite would mean the end of a human soul dragged down into the dark abyss where darkness with no light reigns.
Then the howling of the dogs turned into agonized screams and Marina looked back. As quickly as the dogs tore down the peasants, many different warriors came out of nowhere and beat against the dogs.
She was surprised to see a group of warriors armed with long, overweight axes, dual-wielding swords, longswords, arrows with bows, and oversized weapons striking down the dogs while the peasants tried to escape the wheat fields.
But there was a human scream. The scream of a little girl.
Marina drifted her eyes away to see a little girl with no parents running out onto the grass field, but in the distance, another back of the wild, black dogs gave chase to the sheep. She had to be no older than eight or ten.
Horror once again struck Marina's face again as she saw a little girl dressed in the rank of a nobility's clothes running from the village to the grassy field.
The sheep in the grass fields began to run, but with much wool, the sheep's legs couldn't make it far.
Then without trying to hold make, Marina took to the grass field as she saw the child running away from her home. Knowing she had no weapon; she ran after the child. But she was a siren. She could use her own appearance and singing voice to turn the dogs from the little girl over to her. The power of altering a person's physical form and the voice of an enchantment could turn the dogs, make the dogs look away and see a disguised siren as a better victim.
Then Marina removed her hood from her head and ran after the victim who stopped and screamed loudly as a pack of black dogs growled at their small victim. The direction she was running caught her amid a pack of wolves, which made it easy for Marina to think of a song and try to turn the dogs away.
But she got a glimpse of dogs running toward her, leaving the herd of sheep alone. There was no way now for Marina to make a disguise and sing away the dogs to try to chase her as she was now being chased.
The opening behind the girl could have run is where Marina ran at. She saw the girl was paralyzed with fear and couldn't move her numbed legs.
Then she dived over the girl, knelt down, and covered the girl with her body. "Don't look, little dear! Keep your eyes closed!" The girl had tears dripping from her eyes of horror and fear, and her face awestruck with much negativity.
Marina covered the girl with her own body, hugging her closely tight. The girl screamed as there was nothing the siren could do but to protect the child. This was a stranger she only met with a few others before the little girl, but this was the youngest. She may be a siren, but Marina had the heart of a human. She was protecting the child if the child was her own daughter.
Marina saw the pack of wild dogs drawing closer to her with red eyes, black fur, grey fangs, and sharp, cruel claws. Then she closed her eyes and nudged her head against the girl's head, thinking this was the end of Marina and the girl she tried to protect. She felt she needed to comfort the girl, but she didn't know what to say as they were surrounded by black dogs.
The sounds of sneering, drooling teeth came closer as the two females. Barking vigorously to know the dogs were still there, slowly moving toward their prey.
Suddenly...
SHAKE!
An earth tremor shook the soil, the sounds of barking ceased, and everything felt so... warm like a burning fire starting to light a forest. A warmth that killed the horrors, the screams and the fear of dying after Marina closed her eyes, and she felt no pain.
Then a loud growl echoed through the land, which was powerful enough to cause a human to go deaf. A growling roar a thousand times longer than a bear, lion, and tiger's roars all combined.
Marina opened her eyes to see a large object of shining ruby standing in front of her. An object that wasn't made of jewelry or a diamond, but of hind legs attached to the back of a human back with a clear, red hair on a human head with a human face. Two different massive objects were on the back of the figure.
What she saw wasn't a large object; it was a beast and a man.
