Chapter 1

A light drizzle of rain pours outside, the air was moist. Megan emerges out from the metro train after it makes a smooth stop at the Manchester Train Station. Exactly the kind of thing Megan went to London to see, along with vast cathedrals, advertisements featuring casual nudity, small cars, and doctors smoking in front of hospitals. A large part of the building itself is a huge Victorian Goth work of art, created of deep russet-colored bricks and white stone. Megan kept walking until she reached the “Meeting Place”. It was right in front of a huge sculpture where a man and a woman were leaned close together just about to kiss. She would have never imagined coming back here again.

More and more people come behind her pushing and shoving each other to get through. Megan walks to a corner near a faded map of where the tubes connected to check her phone. She holds on tight to the medium sized envelope she has in her hand and looks down at her phone to check the time once more. After arriving from the airport from an 8 hour plane ride she was feeling very exhausted. Her uncle had already placed her things at his house as he had picked her up from the airport. This being her first time going from place to place through a tube, she couldn’t be any more lost.

When is he going to be here? Megan says to herself as she digs through her bag to find something to eat but finds nothing except a strip of gum. She leans on the glassed up map while waiting for her company to come.

_________

Typical life, average school, boring part-time job, and expected family. Everything Megan would think of when she thought about her life in general for the last year of high school. The stress of actually deciding which college to go to was getting to her head and all she could think of was moving far away from where she was now; far, far away from California. All her life she was constantly moving because her mom and dad’s job. Megan never really made any longtime friends in her life and moving into a different high school almost every year wasn’t very practical with her parents job and online school wouldn’t work either because her parents strictly want her to have the ‘typical high school experience’. Or whatever it was called. Even when Megan was young her aunt had practically took in the role of her second mom since her parents were always away. She would always take care of her even when she was young. The only place Megan could ever call home was the condo her parents had in New York. It was the best place to grow up in her opinion and she had so many unforgettable memories there and she will never forget that was part of her childhood.

*1 year ago in Rome, Italy*

And now here she was just leaving Cannes, France and was on her way to Rome as another letter had instructed her to go.

“How long is the boat ride going to be? We’ve been here for more than 30 minutes.” Megan asked.

“We’re almost there. You can already see the pier.” Gia answered back using her hand to block the sunlight and get a clearer view of the spot.

“Where are we going first, the beach, the boardwalk, or do you guys want to drive straight into the city?” Sam asked the girls all sitting down.

“Can we go to the grove? I kind of just want to stay at the beach for a while. I’m getting tired and I want to rest for a bit.” said Megan tiredly.

“Okay guys we’re here.” said Sam from the front of the boat.

They all headed out of the boat and walked down the pier to lay their belongings in the sand.

“I think we’re going to stay out here for a bit, the boat ride was pretty long. You guys can go ahead.” said Daniel as he sat down in the sand.
