Your feet were starting to grow tired, Tyler was nearly dragging you at this point, maybe you could stall for time. You collapsed onto the sidewalk quite forcibly to make it look real as Tyler quickly let go of your wrist as not to be dragged down with you, he growled softly as he turned and knelt in front of you. “Get up.” He demanded, you felt like your soul was leaving your body. “I’m not..going anywhere.” You managed to speak under your breath. After a few seconds, without warning you felt him roll you onto your back, the sun nearly blinding you as you quickly shut your eyes, opening them again to see him picking you up, hauling you onto his shoulder which surprised you a little. You sighed softly as he carried you along, staring at the passing sidewalk.

5:42 PM

The soft violet clouds scattered across the peach-colored sky shrouding the hue of the sun, passing birds chattering and chirping overhead. You had nearly fallen asleep until Tyler stopped abruptly, nearly causing you to fall from his shoulder. “Put her down, Tyler.” A masculine british voice rang out, sounding dangerously familiar, Tyler became deathly still, as if afraid of something. “I said. Put. Her. Down.” The voice spoke again, you realized why Tyler was so afraid. “I can’t do that, Afton.” Tyler spoke coldly, a slight tremble in his voice. You knew it, it is William. You wanted to call out to him, but weren’t quite in the position to do much of anything at the moment. “Come on, you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t want to do this, trust me.” You wiggled, knowing he would have to let go eventually, he growled quietly at your struggle, setting you down at his feet. You immediately turned to face William as he stood in the middle of the street, a one-lane road in the midst of a small neighborhood, the houses widely spaced from one another. You studied him for a moment, not sure what you were looking for but you saw an expression of concern written on his face.

As William attempted to coax Tyler to set you free, you noticed something shiny in Tyler’s pocket, you looked over at it, realizing it was a handle of sorts. You started to panic a little, but it was too small to be a gun, you contemplated what it could be. “There are plenty of other girls Tyler, she’s not the only one.” William spoke calmly as he began to walk towards you and Tyler, like he was taming a wild animal. “You don’t get it, Afton! They don’t give a damn! All they care about is the money, y/n doesn’t. She’s different.” William caught your gaze as you gestured to the object in Tyler’s pocket, his attention turned to the handle, then looked back up at Tyler. “I know, I know.” He considered his frustration, trying to keep him calm. “You don’t deserve her.” Tyler spoke coldly as he looked William dead in the eyes, he snapped. “You think I don’t know that??” He yelled. “You think I don’t look at myself every day and question my worth?? Well I do! And I have been for the past seven goddamn years!” His voice cracked a little, you could hear the misery in his voice, your expression softened, realizing William might have been hiding something from you. “And.. I know what I did was horrible and.. and I can never be forgiven, but I can’t stop until I know she’s safe. You wouldn’t know what it feels like.” His voice quivered slightly, only a few feet from you and Tyler by now, Tyler stared with little emotion. “Just let her go.” William said, Tyler glared down at you with blank hazel eyes, you could tell he was thinking deeply. He looked back up at William, his brows narrowed. “No.” He slowly placed his hand on his pocket, you backed up slowly as you carefully scoot back into the grass. “Don’t do it.” William warned, his dark eyes unmoving. “Who’s going to stop me?” Tyler spoke in a joyless tone, his eyes widened slightly, you started to fear the outcome of this fight.

After a few moments of silence, a drop of water hit your head, you flinched a little, glancing towards the sky to notice the clouds had turned gray, and rain began coming down, pattering against the concrete one droplet at a time, neither William nor Tyler seemed bothered by the gradual precipitation. In what seemed like a fraction of a second, Tyler suddenly whipped out a knife from his pocket, lashing out at William, who just barely managed to jump back from the blade. You too, had jumped back in surprise, keeping your distance from the conflict. Tyler kept lunging forward with the knife, seeming desperate to land a hit but William kept evading him. You surveyed the surrounding area frantically, hoping you could find some way to help. You looked back towards the two combatants, you noticed William refused to fight back, but he seemed to be making his way towards you as he continued dodging Tyler’s ceaseless hostility. Suddenly, William whipped around and ran towards you, thoughtlessly picking you up and carrying you away, you sat there in his arms, stuck in a daze confused about what just happened. You looked up at him, his eyes set on the road ahead of him, sweat beading from his forehead as he ran with haste, as you held onto him you leaned into his chest with a bewildered expression, relieved that he had come for you. You just hoped that Tyler wouldn’t follow.

After a little while, William slowed to a stop as he looked behind him before slowly crouching to set you down on the sidewalk, he sat criss-crossed in front of you, you set your hands in your lap, looking up at him. “So it’s true?” You asked sheepishly, hesitantly looking him in the eyes, their dark eminence cast over your figure. He blinked curiously, tilting his head slightly like a confused puppy. “What you said about me back there, is it true?” You asked again, your articulation a little clearer. He sighed softly, looking down to the concrete with soft hues. “Yes, it’s true.” You noticed his hands ball up slightly, without hesitation, you slowly placed a hand on his as you met a surprised gaze. You smiled softly as he enveloped your hands within his, holding them tightly, his eyes appeared to sparkle. You weren’t quite sure what this feeling was, but it felt good. You broke off from your daze as you gently pulled back your hands, he hesitantly let go as you stood up, William following suit. “I should get home, my mom is probably worried about me.” He chuckled slightly. “Yes, of course.” William smiled as he took you home.

The surrounding area started to become familiar, you knew exactly where your house was from here. You started to walk ahead of William, relieved that you were finally home. After a moment you noticed William’s presence lacked behind you, you turned around wondering why he wasn’t following, and horror struck. He fell onto his knees, cringing as he held his abdomen, Tyler stood behind him with a bloodied knife, you realized what had just happened. You stood there, frozen, at a loss of words, you wanted to scream, to tell Tyler that he was a wretched, vile, loathsome worm. A disgrace of a human being. You heard a woman call from behind you. “There! That’s my friend!” You couldn’t turn around, your eyes glued to the sight before you. “Y/n!” The voice grew closer. “Y/n are you okay??” Robin pulled you back, turning you around to look you in the eyes. “I-” You muttered, unable to speak. “It’s alright. You’re okay.” She pulled you into a hug, a hug that only a mother could give. You watched as a Policeman slowly approached Tyler, gun in hand. “Put the knife down, son.” He warned, slowly getting down to check on William, and standing back up to approach Tyler, who had continued backing up from the officer, his hands trembling. “I- I can’t go to jail..” He muttered, staring at the officer with a terrified look. “You won’t son, we just want to talk to you. I’m sure your mother wouldn’t want you to go to jail.” You pulled away from Robin as the officer and Tyler moved away from William, you rushed over to him, rolling him onto his side. “Will! William!” You called desperately, holding him as you examined his wounds. “I-I’m okay.” He muttered, struggling to sit up. You propped him up, your hands sliding down his arms to grab his hands, holding them close. “Tis’ but a flesh wound, love.” He chuckled weakly. You smiled ever so faintly, relieved that he still had the spirits to joke around. You looked up, hearing a commotion as you noticed the officer had pinned Tyler, who growled and grunted as he wiggled in frustration. You looked back at William. “Come on, let’s get you up. Robin can you help me out here?” You turned around slightly, she quickly walked over, helping you get William to his feet as you and Robin walked him to your house.
