“Give it back, Tyler.” You stared at him, slowly filling with anger. “Not until you agree to date me.” He replied in a seemingly emotionless tone, you scoffed. “How many times do I need to tell you? No!” You kept your eyes locked onto his, clenching your fists as the tension rose. These boys were about a year older than you but you had a few tricks up your sleeve, even if this went bad you might be able to get out of it. “Get her.” Tyler said in a cold and commanding tone, his eyes still locked onto yours. You immediately jumped back, the first instinct that came to you was to get away, not wanting to risk bringing any harm to yourself. You spun yourself around and hightailed it out of there, you could hear the sound of multiple heavy footsteps behind you as you ran for your house, but thought it wouldn’t be such a good idea to lead Tyler straight to your house when your mom wasn’t home. You had an idea that you might be able to lose them by going through some back alleys that only you and a few others knew. Turning a corner, you kept your eyes on the path ahead, mapping out the directions in your head as you concentrated to keep your breathing steady. Left, right, right, left, right, left. You could hear the footsteps behind you getting closer as you ran down a long alleyway, struggling to stay out of their reach. Right, right, left, right, left, left. You suddenly took a sharp right turn and grabbed onto a pole to slow yourself down enough to keep your balance as your feet skidded along the pavement and the boys behind you were tripping over themselves, Tyler audibly frustrated at the other two, as you straightened yourself and regained your balance you kept running, hoping you can lose them by the time you get to your house.

You skidded to a stop when you got to the street, panting heavily trying to catch your breath as you leaned against the wall. You looked up for a moment, glancing down the alley making sure you had lost them, you let out a huge sigh of relief as you slink down the wall and sit on the ground. Looking up at the sky you closed your eyes for a minute to rest. Maybe you could go back for your bike, but then again it could be risky when Tyler could still be looking for you. You decided your bike wasn’t worth the risk, and you would walk home, being less than a block away from where you were. You took a few steps onto the sidewalk to take in your surroundings, and checking for trouble. As you looked across the street you noticed Matthew and Lily talking to each other on a bench, you perked up a bit as you warily made your way over to them. When you walked up to the bench you greeted them and they looked up at you. “Hey guys.” You said in a soft tone. “Oh, hey y/n, how’s it going?” Lily and Matthew moved to opposite sides of the bench to make room for you. “I’m good I guess, I’ve been better.” You sat down between them, crossing your arms and looking down at the sidewalk. “Did something happen?” Matthew said calmly. You took a deep breath, not wanting to lie to your friends you decided to tell the truth. “I was getting groceries, and when I came out of the store my bike was gone, I went to look for it and found out that Tyler and two Juniors had stolen it. They started to chase me and I managed to lose them in the alleys, but I know that he’s still after me, and I know he won’t stop until he gets what he wants.” The three of you sat in silence for a moment, until Matthew spoke up. “I wouldn’t mind walking you home. If that’s okay with you, y/n.” You simply nodded and stood up, Lily and Matthew stood up as well. “I’m headed home, I’ll see you guys tomorrow. I hope things get better, y/n.” She said as she exchanged hugs with Matthew and you.

As you and Matthew walked to your house, you took the time to enjoy Matthew’s company since you didn’t get to spend much time with him during school. “So, how are things going with you?” You asked calmly. “Well, I’m living with my grandparents now, my mom did some.. bad things, so that’s news.” You looked at the ground briefly, feeling bad for him. “Oh, I’m sorry about that.” He sighed softly. “It’s alright, they.. weren’t the best parents.” You had forgotten about Matthew’s mom, she was an alcoholic. Your mom had always been concerned about Matthew and had talked with your dad about adopting him if things went sideways, but Matthew’s grandparents are very kind people and were always there for him. When you got to the doorstep you turned around to look at Matthew. “Thanks for walking me home, I owe you.” He chuckled a bit. “No, you don’t, I still owe you a lot.” You smiled as you opened the door. “See you later alligator.” He returned the smile as he put his hands in his pockets and walked down the driveway. “In a while, crocodile.” You chuckled as you went inside and locked the door behind you. You were convinced that you have the best friends in the world.

End of school year, 3:15 PM

You and your friends were the first to push the double-doors open, you felt as if a huge weight had been lifted, most likely being all of your school supplies. You and the others sat on a picnic table in front of the school, Lily had jumped in excitement. “My friends, we are officially Juniors!” Everyone laughed as you talked to each other about all the good and bad memories, and what they hope to do in the future. “I hope to be a wildlife vet someday.” Lily said proudly. “Dad says I’ll have to go into college for a while but I think it’ll be worth it.” “Max and I want to go into computer programming. We’ve been talking about it for years now.” Nellie said in a confident tone. Jessie slinks into her seat, slightly nervous. “I want to be a doctor. I know it’s unlike me but I really enjoy it. I like taking care of other people, it makes me feel like I’m doing something good.” She said in a moderately nervous tone. “That’s great to hear Jess, being a doctor isn’t something you should be ashamed of.” Lily said comfortingly. “Thanks.” Jessie chuckled a bit. “What about you y/n? What do you want to do?” You sighed, feeling a bit pressured but knowing your friends are patient. “I haven’t really thought about that yet. I guess I’m still thinking about it.” Lily looked around a bit until something caught her eye, she seemed bothered. You looked where she was looking and figured out why she had that expression. “Oh great, here come the new Seniors.” Lily said in a disgusted tone as the group turned to watch Tyler and two other Juniors walking out of the school in a casual manner. Jessie chuckled a bit, most likely at a joke she made up. “Hey Seniors! Go back to your retirement home!” She yelled at the three boys, who glared at the group in return. You and the others snickered and chuckled quietly, Tyler’s eyes drifted to you, which made you moderately uncomfortable, even around your friends. He seemed to ignore Jessie’s comment as he maintained eye contact with you. “You should have accepted y/n, now summer is going to be rough for you.” He said in an emotionless tone as he and the other boys walked off campus, leaving you and your friends behind. You sighed softly, Matthew spoke up as he turned to look at you. “Don’t worry about him right now, y/n, I’m sure his family has other plans for the summer, he probably won’t have time to bother you.” You looked down at your hands. “Yeah, let’s hope so.” You said in a calm tone.

Friday 10:30 PM

You woke up in the middle of the night, you were unsure why you were unable to fall asleep. As you sat up in bed and rubbed your sleepy eyes, you looked towards your doorway noticing the light was on downstairs, you could hear your mom talking to someone on the phone. You slowly stood up and walked downstairs, wondering who she was talking to. You could hear what she was saying. “-yes i’m sure she’ll be delighted to hear that. Yes I will. Thank you so much.” You peeked into the doorway to the kitchen to watch her, she seemed excited about something. She set the phone down and turned around, noticing you in the doorway. “Mom? Who.. Who were you talking to?” You said curiously as you took a step into the kitchen. She opened her mouth to speak but she chose to keep quiet, you could tell by her expression she was trying to think of something, you frowned a little. “Are you hiding something from me?” You said in a calm tone. “No honey, it’s not that. It’s just-” She sighed, folding her arms. “I’m worried about you, ever since you and William started talking I've been worried about you.” You frowned, looking away in disbelief. “William isn’t the one you should be worried about.” You said in a soft tone. She looked at you with a rather confused expression. “What do you mean? Who else should I be worried about?” You looked up at her, your expression softened to appear considerably distressed. “It’s Tyler again. He- He’s been getting worse lately, and I don’t know how much more I can deal with.” You sighed quietly as you fold your arms and look down at the ground. Your mom smiled a little as she walked over to you and put her arm around you. “Its ok baby, i’m here for you. What has he been doing?” You sighed, and spent about six to ten minutes telling her everything that Tyler had been doing to you, and even the times when William protected you from him. That night you fell asleep feeling good now that you had told your mom, it was a good feeling.
