On the bus ride to the cross country meet, I was exhausted. Issac kept me up all night (not for the good reason). However compared to Scott, I was glowing. The poor beta looked like death. Maybe it was the alpha fight yesterday, or perhaps it was the sound of Stiles quizzing him at this hour.
If only there was a seat next to Issac or Danny. Stiles and I still aren't on the best grounds.
"Whats the word?" Scott asked nursing his stomach like a mother would.
"Anachronism."
"Something that exists out of its normal time," Scott answered carelessly.
"Nice," Stiles said.
He continued to blabber about how its ridiculous that they were on a 5 hour bus trip for a cross country meet. I'm sure he was thinking about the joy of sitting next to me whilst he mentioned this.
The bus drives over a bump and scott groans. Stiles and I are immediately concerned.
"Oh buddy you okay?" Stiles asked with his brown doe eyes, "we shouldnt have come. I knew it we shouldnt have come."
"We had to, theres safety in numbers."
"Well theres also death in numbers, its called a massacre," I stated agitated due to my lack of sleep.
"Or bloodbath, carnage, slaughter, butchery..." Stiles continued stating words off the tablet almost causing me to sleep.
Scott groans in agony again, shaking me back to alertness.
"Alright Scott, I'm telling coach."
I gave Stiles a death glare, "how do you plan on explaining a massive gash in his stomach?"
"No don't, I'm alright."
Stiles expression looked almost as pained as Scott, "well you dont look alright."
"Let me see it," I interjected again.
"I'm okay."
"Just let me see it, I have some experience in this."
Scott pulls up his shirt revealing a savage bloody wound.
"Oh dude," Stiles empathised. I instinctively put my hand on his lower back to comfort him. He didn't seem to notice.
"I know it looks bad but its because theyre from an alpha, they take longer to heal," Scott argues.
"Longer? Yes," I respond, "this much longer? No, somethings wrong."
"How come Boyd and Issac are fine?" Stiles asked.
My ears peaked at the mention of Issac. Before he was beaten up and watched Derek die, he was crying on my chest. Who knows how he is doing?
Scott just turned and faced out the window.
"I cant believe hes dead, Derek is dead."
Stiles started texting me, to avoid Scott's interference I assume.
SS: Can you do something?
AA: We are finally on talking terms?
SS: This isn't about us Atticus, it's about Scott. Grow up.
AA: I could try, but I'm not sure I have enough juice left. I was using it at the hospital.
SS: You're not going to start sacrificing virgins to help Scott are you?
AA: Unfortunately there's only one on this bus, you're safe for now.Stiles shoulders relaxed after this message. I think he just needed some kind of relief. Everything seemed pretty bleak.
The endless drive continued to scrape at my sanity. Jared's wining green face, Scott grunting at every bump and my cousin and Lydia trailing us still.
Scott notices Boyd ready to lunge at Ethan during the ride, he drags himself over to their seat to stop him. When Scott came back eventually Stiles decided to chip in.
"Crisis averted? Good because we've got another problem. Ethan keeps checking his phone every five minutes, it's like he's waiting for something. A message or a signal of some kind. Something evil though, you know I have a perceptive eye for evil."
"I don't like him sitting with Danny," Scott spoke my mind and Stiles agreed.
After Stiles thought that Scott's condition required some privacy, he did the only logical thing to force us to pull over. And after Jared's face wasn't so green, Stiles and I dragged Scott off the bus.
Scott was heavy and limp. He could barely exert any energy.
Lydia and Allison met us in the out of order bathroom.
Scott's black wound looked dire. Unknown liquid was seeping from the gash and the wonky jawed boy was fading more with each second.
"This shouldn't be happening, I've seen him heal from worse than this," Allison said confused.
"Okay so what do we do? Just call an ambulance?"
"What if it's too late? What if they can't help?" Stiles says.
I intervened, "well we've got to do something."
"You know it could be psychological," Lydia suggested.
"What like psychosomatic?"
"Somatoformic," I corrected.
"A physical illness from a psychogenic cause. Yes it's all in his head," Lydia elaborated.
"Because of Derek he's not letting himself heal because Derek died."
"So what do we do?" Allison asked.
"Stitch him up," Lydia suggests pulling out some tools, "I'm serious, maybe all he needs to do is believe that he's healing."
Whilst Stiles and Lydia go to stall the bus from leaving, I coach Allison through stitching up Scott. I would've done it but she insisted.
The poor girl couldn't thread a needle through without pouring her eyes out. After she had composed herself she stitched Scott up with ease.
Allison and I were helping a wounded Scott as he still couldn't walk properly. Stiles approaches a nervous wreck. He told Issac about what was happening to Scott and he snapped.
I didn't need to hear anything else. Stormed over through the commotion of the crowd. Issac was feral and enraged. He had let loose his wolf side. Not much visibly, just his eyes. I did the only thing I saw appropriate.
I yelled his name at the top of my lungs whilst channeling the last of my Druid reserves.
"Issac!"
The curly haired beta stopped punching immediately. Ethan sighed in relief as he was dropped and Danny crawled immediately to his mouth pouring with blood.
Issac looked at me with puppy eyes, not wolf, as if his owner had just told him off.
Everyone who knew about the supernatural looked at me confused. Allison, Stiles, Ethan... everyone.
I dragged Issac away by his shirt to somewhere private.
"What the hell Issac!" I scolded him.
"I didn't know what to do," Issac looked at the floor, "I've lost so much. I've now also lost Derek, was going to lose Scott. I lashed out."
I kissed him softly. A short kiss and tilted his head up.
He wrapped his arms around me and held me tight. I felt at ease with him, we understood each other.
Yet, I overdone my druidry. Before long everything faded to black.
