"Atticus!" Gerard bellowed up the stairs summoning me. Appearing immediately in gym shorts and a tank top, I gave him a questioning eyebrow. "Glad to see you're working out," he stated after noticing my attire and consumed an abundance of pills. "But get changed, I'm taking you out out." He walked away with a wicked grin smothering his elderly face.
Compliantly, I dress in my classic hunters gear. Typically it consisted of: combat boots, black skinny jeans, a black muscle fit t-shirt and a camouflage green denim jacket. If I had to kill, I might as well dress decently to do so.
Picking up my weapon of choice, a pair of battle axe, I tucked them into the back of jeans. Following my "Grandpa" into his car talking to him like I had always done since moms death.
Chewing gum whilst my jaw was clicking from doing it so much, I questioned him. "Who are we going to kill? And why?" I never agreed with blind trust. If Gerard wanted my loyalty, he would have to give me something in return. He was meant to be training me in strategy. Perhaps this would be educational.
The old man snickered that same laugh he always had and looked at me, "are you ever not a moody teenager?" he replied rhetorically. "This is a demonstration Atticus. Tonight I'll be starting a grand scheme. I brought you here mainly because you had nowhere else to go." Gerard stated. "I also brought you here because I'm starting a war. Atticus. You are my finest soldier I made. Emotionally detached, physically fit, intelligent and one of the best I've seen in combat."
Click, click, click. My jaw clicked with every chew. I appreciated his honesty. Gerard maybe be a vicious human, but at least he told me the truth. If the code had been broken, I'm happy to comply with orders.
We soon appeared in the woods. Dim and misty. The only sound of crunching dead foliage and struggles in the distant. Only then I realised why Gerard wanted to bring his broad sword.
I saw it. A werewolf hanging by his hands. Struggling, vulnerable and helpless.
Uncle Chris walked up to the beast and pumped him full of electricity, enough to kill multiple people. We all watched like savages as this man cried out in torturous agony.
"Who are you?" Chris asked soullessly. "What are you doing here?"
"Nothing. Nothing I swear," the wolf replied back desperately.
"You're not from here are you?" My uncle question. "Are you!" he roared.
The wolf whimpering and stuttering his words out, "no, I came...I came looking for the alpha."
We all exchanged glances at each other.
Interrupted by the wolf adding, "I heard he was here that's all. Look I didn't do anything, I didn't hurt anyone, no one living anyway. He wasn't alive in the ambulance. He wasn't I swear."
Raw fear was dripping from the wolf, so much so I could almost taste it. It was sharp, bitter. Stabbed the back of your throat.
"Gentlemen," Gerard addressed the other hunters. "Take a look at a rare sight. Do you want to tell them what we caught?" Gerard spoke almost raspy.
"An omega," I answered. Ready to recite a textbook answer.
"The lone wolf" Gerard added, seeming content with my response.
"Possibly kicked out of his own pack. A survivor of a pack that was hunted down? Maybe even murdered," I spoke to my teachers, both of which looking fondly at my remarks.
"Possibly alone by his own choice," Gerard added to my list of possibilities. "Certainly not a wise choice," he finished with his signature snigger.
He then walked back towards the broad sword which he had carried with him. Grasping its firm handle like a butterknife.
"Because as I am about to demonstrate," he mentioned taking his time to admire the omega hanging at his will. "An omega rarely survives on his own!"
With this Gerard turns back and barbarically lashes through the wolf with the sword severing him from the waist down.
Everyone stood and watched as the wolf's top half swung. Gerard had officially declared war.
