I've woken up in some rough places: alleyways, pack den and Kate's car (one of those people who rarely cleaned her car). The vets office isn't the worst, but my body felt like a piñata after a 6 years olds birthday party.
Suddenly two hands firmly gripped both my wrists.
And the pain subsided.
I considered myself lucky that it was the alpha twins taking away my pain, at least they're alive and well enough to stand. They didn't seem as fatigued as I, so the pain relief really done wonders.
"Thanks," I sighed out as my aching body recovered.
"Shut up," Aiden whined at me, "you saved our lives. It seems like we owe you way more than this."
I smirked as I began to sit up on the floor and lean myself against the wall.
"A thank you would go a long way. How're you two feeling?"
They both pulled up chairs in front of me, then Aiden spoke again, "lucky to be alive. Would've suffered the same fate as Kali if it wasn't for you Deaton said."
"Lydia and Danny would kill me if I didn't do everything to save the people they care about, even if it did nearly end me."
"Just one side effect," Ethan finally said looking somewhat upset until flashing searing blue eyes at me, "whilst you kept us alive, seems like we had to give up something as well."
I looked at them confused, "would you rather be dead?"
"No, but I don't necessarily want to be an omega. You wouldn't get it," Aiden sulked.
I huffed out, "I wouldn't? When I came to Beacon Hills, my grandad took me into the woods to watch an omega get sliced in half with a broad sword. I know the risks you face as an omega, you'll just have to hunt for a nice alpha to take you both in."
"Well, we will be talking to one soon enough," Ethan replied, "but thanks again for everything. Remember, we have your back, for life."
Aiden didn't say anything. He just looked me in the eye and I know he shared the same sentiment as his brother. He offered me a hand up onto the chair were I sat and composed myself as the twins left.
As they walked away, I wondered what would lie ahead for the twins. Would their lack of power cause them to calm down and dedicate themselves to their respective partners? Would they hunt for an alpha to join their pack? Or worse, kill him to become alphas again? My only hope was that they'd live better lives.
I didn't have the strength to think over these issues for too long. I just enjoyed my seat, as I slowly felt energy come back into my limbs. I focused on my breathing, gaining peace and focus.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were crazy," Deaton remarked as he entered the back of his veterinary centre.
I gave out a weak chuckle, "you gave a killer the ability to help people. I think you're the crazy one."
"Yet, Atticus, you took to it like a duck does to water," he said pulling out a flash light to check my brain stem was still properly supporting me, "what you performed yesterday was a miracle. Supporting two lives, at the same time, that was impressive."
It all very much went over my head, I was too exhausted to process anything he had said. I just waiting for him to pass me the food he had brought in, I was aching to eat.
Deaton eventually ended my torment and passed me the burrito he had brought in, "I suppose I should fill you in on last nights events, surprising what you miss when you're unconscious for 12 hours."
"Jennifer is dead, Scott broke a mountain ash barrier and became a true alpha. When he made that transition, all members of his pack gained strength. You and Isaac used this power and saved peoples lives."
I took a second to take it all in, "so what does that make me?"
"An emissary," we said in unison.
I blinked rapidly.
"A strong one at that, Atticus. What you managed to do was nothing like I'd ever seen before. The control, the intent and the duration."
"Perhaps this was the best time for a powerful Druid. The beacon is active Atticus. Beacon Hills has become a supernatural beacon, I imagine many creatures will arise."
After I finished my bite, I chipped in, "and you want me to heal up the collateral damage?"
"I think you've sidelined yourself too much, the ability to track supernaturals, defend yourself and heal people makes you the perfect person to help stop the supernatural from tipping the scales of balance."
"The scales of balance?" I questioned.
Deaton continued, "life is made up of many pairs. Good and evil, day and night, light and dark" he trailed on for a while before returning to his point, "they fluctuate and balance each other out. Your job is to stop those scales from being completely unbalanced."
"So I'm supernatural law enforcement now?" I remarked sarcastically.
"No," Deaton stated, "you're Atticus Argent. Hunter, Druid and lifesaver."
