It was almost too perfect. Torrential rain, power outages and patient transfers all at the same time. Chaos. Some people think it's a force, I disagree. Chaos is energy, it rises and falls but can never be destroyed.
Chaos was high, and it was only rising. High chaos is optimal for those who need to act quickly. The difference between Jennifer and us is she knew what she was doing every step. Our only step was saving Cora.
"What's that?" Scott asks Stiles as he leaves his car with a Louisville slugger.
He swivels it about, "well you got claws and I got a baseball bat."
I lift my shirt lightly to flash Scott and Stiles my pair of axes secured in my waistband, "and I got these."
I couldn't help but enjoy how Stiles seemed to linger for too long, Scott pulling him away eventually. I might offer him to have a longer look some other time.
Walking through the hospital to Cora was awkward, not only because we knew she was dying, but because we had to drag her killer through to save her. Whilst it may seem like we were controlling her, it was really the other way around.
It was strange going through such an empty hospital, I used to keeping people in the hallway. Now there's just the remainders on the floor, not a person to be seen. Not a person to be seen until reached Cora's hospital room to find an empty bed.
Suddenly, double doors opened and through them slid weak Peter Hale, my mothers favourite.
"We got a problem" he said with agony on his face, "a big problem."
If only we knew earlier that the big problem was 'voltron wolf', as Stiles would call it. Ethan and Aiden were here, they were one wolf, and that one wolf was going to be hard to take down.
Scott and Derek immediately went for them. Alternating high and low shots. It would be a good strategy if Ethan and Aiden weren't significantly stronger together. When the right moment hit, they were thrown to the side with ease.
During the heat of battle, Stiles dragged me over to Cora's limp body. She was burning up, dripping and lifeless. I did what druidry I could to help her a little, but she struggle to receive it.
Stiles nodded at me signalling to lift her up and carry her to safety. We went to the nearest room I remembered which had a sizeable door which we can somewhat hold down. It would have been long enough for Jennifer to help her, so we could just deal with the twins.
The only issue being that we had lost Jennifer when Stiles and I left to help Cora.
"Where's the big guy?" Stiles said.
"He's close."
"What about Miss Blake?"Stiles asks to deaf ears, "what do you mean, you lost her?"
After the anger and frustration, we made Peter and Scott the diversion for the twins. The rest of us would have our own duties. Stiles and I would focus on getting Cora on that ambulance. I wanted to do more as a wolf hunter, but as a walking life support machine; I had no choice.
Whilst Derek ran from Kali when we got Cora into the ambulance, it left Stiles and I to fend for her life.
Stiles and I waited there for too long. I couldn't guess how long. Minutes? An hour? I was guarding the door whilst Stiles was making sure Cora was still breathing. The moment came to when her heart really did stop.
I dont remember what Stiles said, I think part of me doesn't want to remember. I saw Boyd die without being saved, I wouldn't allow this to happen to Cora as well. How poetic. The werewolf hunter saving the life of the werewolf niece of the man who killed my mother.
I did manual CPR, but this felt different. With every chest compression, I felt myself get weaker. This wasn't normal CPR. I think I was using my talent at the same time. I pushed, and raised. Repeat. Repeat. My eyes were heavy.
She deeply inhaled.
"If anyone can get us out of here, it's Scott," Stiles said sadly next to me. I took my place at his side; both our eyes not leaving Cora. "You know it used to always be me with the plan, well at least the plan B. Now I don't know may Cora was right. Maybe we are pretty much useless, maybe all we do is turn up late and find the bodies. I don't want to find my father's body Atticus."
Tears formed and fell from his doe brown eyes as he spoke. Stiles was talking like it was exactly what he was thinking, he was opening up to me. I moved his hand away and wiped his stray tears running down his face. I empathised deeper than he could understand, I had lost my mother. Every time she left a part of me was worried she wouldn't come back.
I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his forehead. A small light kiss. Stiles didn't want someone to talk, he needed someone to just listen. My arm wrapped around him and he buried himself in my side as we watched Cora patiently.
After what felt like forever, Issac arrived in Chris' car to take Cora to the nearest operating hospital. I guess him and Allison have been getting on well.
After carrying Cora into the car, I turn around and see Stiles' distressed.
"What is it?" I asked.
He sprinted. He was gone so quickly into the hospital, I had to follow him.
I told Isaac to go ahead, but I needed to find Stiles. He cannot get hurt again, just like Gerard did.
I chased Stiles who was running after Scott. What happened? What was I missing.
"Guardian's Scott," I heard coming from the rooftop. "They're gone. If you were with me, I could have told you what that meant. I could have warned you. Let me help you Scott, let's help each other. You help me catch her and I'll help you get your mother and Stiles' father back."
"Scott, don't do this. Don't go with him," Stiles pleaded at his best friend. Not wanting him to go with Deucalion, whilst Deucalion spent the whole time looking at me.
"I don't know what else to do."
"No Scott, theres got to be something else. Okay? We always.. we always have a plan B."
Scott sobbed weakly with puffy eyes of sorrow, "not this time."
"Scott," Stiles called out to his childhood friend, holding onto my hand tightly in distress.
"I'm going to find your dad. Promise."
"Scott!" Stiles called out again desperately, his breathing becoming irregular.
With that Scott and Deucalion left. Just like earlier, Stiles ended up crying in my chest. I was really all he had left.
