MICK

-ˋˏ ༻✿༺ ˎˊ-

I was attending to my father as he laid in the bed, back straight but in a comfortable position that the nurse out him in. I came in and kissed him gently on the forehead.

"Hallo, Vatti." I saw his eyes following me as I moved around the room to set things in place. I grabbed a chair and sat beside him. I grabbed his hand and gave it three small squeezes. He smiled a little and did his best to squeeze back four times.

"And then I overtook Sebastian by the side and when I saw the checkered flag I raced for it!" I showed my dad the video of me that I found on youtube. It was one of the many races in F1 ever since the season started, now I was back in my family home in Switzerland, enjoying a long weekend before I had to leave for another race. I could tell that Dad was proud, overtaking one of his old friends and teammate Sebastian Vettel. I wish I could hear him say how proud of me he was but seeing his eyes gleam with pride was enough for me.

I closed the door behind me slowly, not wanting to wake my dad up from his afternoon nap. I rubbed my arms creating friction as I noticed it was getting colder in the house. I wandered around, hoping to find my mom or my sister but I found no one. Weird. I called out for the house maids but still no one answered. No one was in sight. Weird. They were all here a second ago. I checked all the rooms in the house. No one. I stopped in my tracks. My dad's room. I raced as fast as my legs allowed me to and barged into his room. The bed was empty. It was as if he vanished into thin air. Him and everyone in this house.

I still couldn't believe my eyes. Everyone disappeared out of nowhere. My dad, my family, everyone who worked in the house and even the townspeople. How was that even possible? The last human interaction I remembered was seeing my father taking a nap and leaving the room to let him rest. And then nothing. The void. I was alone every since then. I tried my best to panic but my thoughts ran back and forth to my ill father, my mom and sister Gina. What happened to them? I still don't know. I tried my best not to think about the future and live day by day hoping it wouldn't be the last or when I woke up I would wake to a busy and buzzing household. But nothing, my prayers were  not answered. But I didn't give up. I decided to look for someone who could have the answers. So i roamed the internet or days. hoping to see if anyone experienced anything similar. But nothing. Everything I read were on fictional works about parallel universes or alternate realities based on fantasy and science fiction but nothing that tied me to a situation where I was in.  I was starting to give up hope. I knew I was running out of time and that electricity was going to run out eventually. Heat too. But then as I roamed newsfeed, something caught my attention. It was a girl and she looked exhausted. Her eyes were all red and puffy, showing me that she cried a lot recently, she was probably under a lot of pressure. But the upon closer inspection I saw that she had massive purple under eyes, and those told me she stayed up a lot, overthinking maybe? But things started to get real interesting when I turned the volume up.

"I don't know what happened to the rest of my family and friends. I have more questions than answers. I have about a month left to live before the nuclear powers in my country explode and I'll die. If I'm truly alone I don't see why I should continue to... stay." She then placed a picture frame down. She was beautiful but she was exhausted. Anyone could've seen that. The fatigue, stress and pressure she is going through drained the life out of her.

"Right? Anyways, my name is (y/n) (l/n) and I'm awfully lonely, there is no form of life where I am whatsoever. So to whoever finds this please please get back to me. Or if someone does find this but if it's too late. Please know that I lived a beautiful life, I just regret not having more time. It's Monday morning the day after I found out everyone was gone. If I don't get an answer by Friday or Saturday, I guess this will be it." I sighed as I saw her smile. A smile that was so forced. It was as if she was on the verge of breaking down in front of the camera, but then she stopped recording. I then smiled.

I was not alone.

And she definitely wasn't alone.

After I filmed my video and I forwarded it to her I waited patiently for a response, while still wandering the town, gathering supplies and food to last the most I could. She had a point. The nuclear power houses would soon explode in a month or so. Switzerland had four of those that fueled 40% of the energy in the country which was quite a lot for a small country, so when they'll explode I'll just close my eyes and drift. Hopefully it won't amount to that. I was hoping to hear from (y/n) soon, as I learned was her name. I watched her video in loop, comforting my loneliness with the sound of an actual human for the first time in days. My hope was brought back and faith was restored. Maybe, maybe we could figure out something together. Hopefully she wasn't on the other side of the Earth, where it would be impossible to reach her. I then heard my computer chime notifying me of something.

She answered back.
