“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
- Isaiah 43:18-19~~~
Reflection:
God reminded the Israelites of who He was and what they were to Him. Throughout the book of Isaiah, He reminded them why He chose Israel. He talked about His great plans, that is their Messiah. He talked about their deliverance from their captivity. He talked about why they were captive in the first place. He wanted them to repent and come back to Him, and He will do great things.
Remembering who we were and what we were before sometimes made us bitter and stagnant on what God wanted us to do and to be. There were times that we were still bound in chains by our past and so we couldn't move on. But God said no. Forget about it and let Him do a new thing in your life.
What is this thing? This thing is a new life. A new start. A change of perspective. Anything that hinders your growth in relationship with Him, God will change it.
The wilderness is often associated with confusion, entanglement and inhabited by wild beasts. Think of a place where all you felt was fear, frustration, hopelessness, and despair. Think of a place where there is no clear path to move forward. It may be your fear of the future or the unknown. It may be your relationship with other people or your relationship with God.
The Lord declared in Isaiah 43:19, "Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness.” Even in the wilderness, once you trust God, He will make a path for you.
The Lord Jesus Christ was brought to the wilderness once, too. In Matthew 4:1, “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” Christ was led into the wilderness in order to conquer every aspect of the wilderness - for us. Reading along the Chapter 4 of the gospel of Matthew, Christ taught us how to conquer every aspect of the wilderness.
Through His example, Christ showed how to overcome and conquer every tactic and snare of the enemy. In a sense, the wilderness was designed to expose what was inside of you. You can choose to surrender to God’s Way of doing things or you can submit to the world’s way of doing things.
What’s in your heart?
Be not entangled in the bondage of the wilderness, brothers and sisters in Christ. Choose to trust God and the wilderness will not destroy you.
Matthew 4:4 said, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
In Greek, live means "be among the living (not lifeless, not dead), to enjoy real life, to have true life and worthy of the name, active, blessed, endless in the kingdom of God, to live in the manner of the living and acting of mortals or character.” Let every aspect of your character reflect the Heart of Christ.
Let the infrastructure of your heart and the framework of your moral character be defined by the Word of God. Focus on His Word. Take each step forward with Christ. Walk with Christ.
Choose to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Do not let the wilderness in your life distract you. Do not let the world entangle you. Let your heart and your mind be defined by the Word of God. Focus on His Word. Take each step forward with Christ because no wilderness can defeat, and overthrow Him.
Receive Christ as Your Lord and Savior and let Him give you a new life — a life that is fully trusting the guidance, wisdom, and instructions of the Word of God. Submit to Him and see how He makes a change in your life.
Will God do a new thing? Yes.
~~~
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for giving me a new life. Thank you for the life of Christ in me; for the Holy Spirit's guidance, wisdom and instructions. I know You will continue to do new things as I walk with You. I pray, dear Lord, that I will remain a faithful servant, focusing solely on You and Your glory. Forever in Jesus Christ, Amen.
