"I will remember the works of the Lord : surely I will remember thy wonders of old."
- Psalms 77:11~~~
Reflection:
Whenever I am in the valley, sometimes I simply need to remember: I return to who I know God is. The moment that I started to think that God has forgotten me, it's the moment that I shake my head and say, "It is me who have forgotton who God is." That slight moment when I think God forgot about me, it was actually the time when I forgot the character of God and what He is capable of.
Habakkuk's third chapter started like a worship song that acknowledges how hard life is and yet remembered all God has done. It's another step, a really big one, in the journey out of the valley. He prayed, "Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy" (Habakkuk 3:2 NIV).
I remember when I was in the last year of college and more lost and depressed than you could ever imagine, and I wanted to end my life. Something in me called out in the name of Jesus, and asked Him to help me. I fell down on my knees as one person, and then when I stood up, I was a completely different person. And then I remember how God brought someone into my life after I prayed that He'll give me a partner who will lead me closer to Him. God is not only a Provider of my material needs but He is also a Provider of my spiritual needs.
And then I remember when I had to go to work with only enough money for transportation towards my workplace in that morning and then, somehow I got money for my transportation in the afternoon. My partner would tell me, "What should you do now?" I answered him at that time, "Jesus is going to give me what I need." It sounded insane and fictional, but it was a bizarre experience for me that got me really closer to God. Because, indeed, with God nothing is impossible.
I remember when my family had nothing to eat and my mother would say, "Don't worry, God will provide for our morrow." And He did provide for us. Until now, He is our Great Provider and He gave us even more than what we expected.
What do you do when you're in the valley? How do you remind yourself of God? You remember what God has done. Not just that.
You have to believe that what He has done before, He will do it again. Because that's how you remind yourself who God is and what He is capable to do. You never stop believing.
Prayer:
Dear God, help me remember You in times of doubts of Your presence. Help me remember of Your goodness and Your greatness whenever I am in the valley. Remind me that You are Sovereign and You are capable. Help me keep on believeing, O, Holy Spirit. In Christ Jesus' Name, Amen.
