Ryoko didn't see Chishiya and Kuina for a full two days. It had been the same with Niragi since Aguni called a meeting that same morning. Ryoko would have been in that meeting but Aguni told him that he wasn't needed for this one, so he obliged.
He was practically moving on autopilot at this point. The boy was socially awkward to such a degree that you were bound to feel the second hand embarrassment from across the room. Flirting while running off of adrenaline was completely different than trying to hold a conversation sober.
Ryoko walked down the hall immersed in the book in his hand. He hadn't noticed a group of people cutting the same corner. He along with another body collided sending them sprawling on the floor.
"Shit sorry!" "My bad!"
The two fallen males got up slightly embarrassed. Ryoko was too busy trying to pick up his book to notice the piercing gaze from the other.
"That's my bad ma-R-Ren?" Ryoko couldn't help but stammer over his words when his eyes met familiar ones.
"Ryoko." The man-Ren spoke in damn near disbelief. It had been so long since the two had seen each other almost 3 years to be exact.
They strongly embraced each other nearly in tears. They held on so tightly like the other might just disappear before their eyes. The two had stood there softly rocking side to side for maybe a minute more before Ren's company interrupted.
"Hey Ren? Who's this?" The female counterpart of the trio spoke up softly as though she was scared to break the emotional moment between the two males.
Ren broke the hug letting out a solid laugh. He turned to look at his friends
"Asahi, Sora, I would like you to meet Akari Ryoko-"
He then wrapped his arm around Ryoko's shoulders.
"-my little brother."
Akari Ren and Akari Ryoko. Brothers.
Ryoko shoved his arm off rolling his eyes.
"You're literally only a week older than me."
"Exactly, 'a week older' makes me the older brother."
Ryoko stuck his tongue out at him, "Whatever idiot. That just means you're closer to death than I am."
Ren softly ruffled his hair before tugging at the ponytail. He felt weird having his older brother's presence near after being apart for so long. It felt weird but in a good way.
The group of four talked for what had seemed like hours. Ryoko was in the middle of a debate with Sora on whether pancakes or waffles were better. They were interrupted by a loud horn then cheers.
It was time for the games.
The four merged into the flowing crowd that was heading towards the lobby. The floor quickly filled up with beach members. Hatter began his nightly speech when the crowd finally settled. Ryoko couldn't care enough to listen instead he let his eyes wander across the executives. Even if he was technically a part of the militants and had a high enough card, Aguni told him to observe from the floor instead of the balcony.
Ryoko looked at Niragi, only to find him staring right back at him. He gave the male a small smile and nod in acknowledgement. Niragi made sure to look at his surrounding before looking back at Ryoko. He mouthed something that Ryoko barely caught.
'Upstairs. After.'
He wanted to see him before they went off to the games. Why? He didn't know nor did he really care. Ryoko gestured back an okay before focusing back on Hatter.
Cheers burst out when Hatter dismissed them. Ryoko felt a hand grab his shoulder and turned to see Ren. He cocked his eyebrow in question.
"Make sure you come back in one piece, okay? I just got you back." The hidden emotion behind Ren's eyes didn't surprise his brother. The two both had trouble when it came to expressing their feelings, the older more than younger.
"Only if you promise to do the same."
Ren held out his pinky and Ryoko was quick to latch on with his own.
"Promise" "Promise"
Ren placed his hand behind the younger's hand and pulled him into a very needed hug.
"I love you, Ren."
"I love you too, kid."
The two smiled ever so softly before partly, oblivious to the numerous sets of eyes watching them.
