Bakugo Pov

The ride to the hospital was dreary and felt like the longest ride in my life, but sitting in the waiting room next to Aizawa had my head bustling with anxiety. For the first ten minutes, we were just sitting in the silence of the secretary's keyboard clacking, watching worried families come and go.

Soon an hour passed, each moment had my blood pressure rising. I could tell that Aizawa was worried too, his jet black hair now tied up in a low ponytail, his eyebrows frozen in a furrow. A doctor walked out. Shoto's doctor. We both snap our heads up, looking for any indication, any expression that could tell us about Shoto.

"Todoroki's blood transfusion went well, we already examined him." the doctor said, stone-cold black eyes hid behind a pair of thick-rimmed glasses.

"Is he going to be alright?" I said, I meant it to sound commanding in my usual voice but all that came out was a whisper.

The doctor nodded "He has two broken ribs, a broken arm, lots of bruises, and a concussion, but all of those things can be treated with time and care." Aizawa and I sighed in relief. "Although, I am required to ask what caused such severe injuries." I felt two pairs of eyes on me.

"I- It- I" once Aizawa figured out that I couldn't tell the doctor what had happened, he took over. Making up some lie about how we ran into a villain. I could tell that the doctor didn't totally buy it, but it was enough for him to leave us alone.

At first, he just stared at me, but it was different from his usual glare, his eyes were soft.

"Come on," he said eventually "let's go see him"

We walked into the room and my heart dropped. There he was, lying in a hospital bed connected to too many machines to be comfortable. He had bruises and bandages everywhere, no longer was blood seeping through but I couldn't help but imagine him the way that I had found him on that playground.

Aizawa placed a comforting hand on my shoulder and it all came out at once.

"It was his dad."

Silence. I found the courage to raise my head to look at Aizawa's but I wish that I hadn't. Anger flared on his face, raging like a loud storm. He balled up his fist by his side and I swear I saw his pupils dilate.

"What did you say." he asked, his voice eerily calm.

"H-His dad is the one that hurt him. Has been for a while." Aizawa looked back at Shoto, the anger dying into sympathy and guilt. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, he asked me not to but I should have known better"

"It's not your fault, and your not his teacher. You nor he should have to be caught up in this."

"It's not your fault, he was good at hiding it."

"But as a teacher, I'm supposed to be looking for things like this." I could see the internal struggle in his eyes. "I swear to God, I am going to hurt the man that did this." he cursed under his breath.

He wiped out his phone and dialed a number speaking into the device.

"Yea, I need to start a new case. Start looking into the Todoroki family." He hung up and turned back to me. "You should go back to the dorms and get some sleep kiddo, he's not going to wake up today. I can drive you back tomorrow."

So reluctantly, that's what I did.

Aizawa Pov

"I- I just don't know how I didn't see it. I mean, I knew something was going on, but I never expected- and now he's in the hospital. . ." we were in the teacher's lounge after a long day with the caseworker. They had managed to dig up only one odd hospital visit when Todoroki was twelve. There was no other evidence at all. Endeavor had covered his tracks well. I always did hate that man.

"Sho, it's not your fault, none of us knew about it as well." My beautiful husband Hizashi Yamada said. I stopped pacing to go sit next to him and leaned my head on his shoulder playing with his yellow hair which he currently had down. "We'll help him, everything will turn out in the end."

"How? His father is an abusive asshole, his mother is in the psychiatric hospital, his brother is only in college, and his sister doesn't have the resources necessary to finish raising him." Hizashi put an arm around me hugging me closer, laying his head on top of mine and gently stroking my arm.

I looked up at him, "Shota, are you thinking of-"

"Hizashi, you know the system is broken" I looked him in the eyes. "And if he gets adopted by a family that lives far away, he might end up transferring schools." He bit his lip, considering. "We have the resources to take care of him."

"Are you sure? I mean you know that I have always wanted a kid of my own, but you have always been on the fence about it."

"I'm sure" I stated with determination.

"Ok, talk to the caseworker, we'll ask when the kid wakes up"
