Oh No [6]

Wilbur cleared his throat, standing ominously over the two of us. "If you two haven't noticed, we have a very important visitor," Wilbur sternly growls, the two of us staring up in silence. "You two be at the caravan in 10 minutes," he finishes, with a final glare at me.

I look at Dream's mask, where the eyes are, and I see his lips curl up as a waves nearly invisibly. I lightly nod up in acknowledgement, as my attention is moved back to Fundy by a tap on the shoulder.

His ears flattened as he speaks, "We should probably make ourselves look presentable," he stands and pauses before stalking off, "good luck, Y/N." He draws his hat back onto his head as he silently walks away, tail down.

I drink in the afternoon air, the warmth filling my lungs, slowing my heart rate. I start the small trek up the hill, moving swiftly. I reach the peak, seeing Eret laying on the ground, soaking up the sunlight. He lay calmly, arms stretched above his head, a light smile gracing his lips.

I crouch down, smirking slightly at him before I lightly shake his shoulder. "Eret, I have some news for you," I whisper loudly for him to hear. He groans, but sits up, running a hand through his hair. "What is it?" he asks, yawning shortly.

I take a breath, "Dream is here, to discuss matters with Wilbur. Fundy and I are to be present, although I'm sure the only reason I'm there is to be," my E/C (eye colour) eyes flick down at the thought, "a weapon. I've beaten literally everyone here in battle, and Wilbur is one of our weakest."

I look up at Eret's face, expecting anything but giddiness. "That's fantastic Y/N! You, being the best fighter, practically guarantees you the place as our general, so you get all the inside information. Don't you realise how much power this gives us?" he lightly shakes my shoulders, a large smile plastered on his face.

I look into his glasses, gently leering at him. I somewhat nod, "I do now, but before I get yelled at for not being presentable, I must go get ready," I softly pat his hair- very soft, would recommend. He lightly nods as I stand up.

[very soon after]

"What the fuck!" Wilbur shouts at Dream, who's just casually threatened the entire country. Fundy's soft yellow eyes widen, with what, I don't know.

I hear Dream scoff, and my eyes flick to the man. We're all in chairs around the table, Wilbur and Dream at the ends, Fundy and I on each side. I sit closer to Dream, feeling all the more safe with my affiliate.

I shrink away from the man who just shouted, and as I lean, still looking at Dream, I see his fist clench. Hoping the other two don't notice, I tenderly place my hand on top of Dream's clenched fist. Almost immediately his fist loosens, and his shoulders as well.

He lets out an exasperated sigh, and I retract my hand before anyone notices. "Wilbur," his voice is dead with a threat, "I want to see white flags! White flags by dawn! White flags!"

Wilbur looks the mask in the eyes, "You're going to have one hell of a war, Dream. I hope you know that." The man spoken to scoffs as he stands, striding out. I follow a few moments later, after Wilbur and Fundy begin to stand.

The others behind me, most likely talking, I open the door to see the least expected people doing the least expected thing. Dream and Eret, shaking hands. "Guys," I quickly whisper, stepping out and putting my hands on their larger ones. I gesture to Dream, "You need to go, they're about to come out. We meet two nights from now."

Dream nods, "See you then," his voice light and happy. He takes an enderpearl from a small pouch hanging from his belt. I just now notice all the pouches, all at various heights. He throws it, shakes my hand, and vanishes.

"C'mon, let's go somewhere, Er," I smile to him. "Y/N, you aren't going anywhere. Get in here, now," I hear Wilbur's voice growl. "Let me at least take Eret," I grumble at him, still holding the mentioned's hand.

Wil says nothing, just spins around and stalks into the van as the door closes. I look at Er, and he nods as I let go of him. I walk in, him trailing. I feel the tension in the room as I peer around the corner.

Fundy, ears flattened, tail up, scowling at his father.

Wilbur, face scornful, shoulders tensed, glaring at the door, at me.

Eret places a comforting hand on my shoulder, silently ushering me to go on. "Uhm, hey?" I quietly say as I walk into the room, Eret shadowing me.

"Y/N. Thank you for coming back in. My son and I have just been," Wilbur pauses, looking at Fundy, "discussing, your place in this country. This amazing, strong country." He eerily smiles, his face filled with passive aggression. "I, Wilbur Soot, leader and founder of L'Manburg, hereby appoint Y/F/N (your full name) of L'Manburg my commander-in-chief."

Eret pulls me in for a hug from behind, whispering in my ear, "Good job. We can do this, Y/N." I make eye contact with Fundy, and his smile is weak, but victorious.

"Y/N, from now on, any meetings we have, you're to be there, mandatory. You are to teach these men how to spar properly, using swords. You're also to teach them to use crossbows and bows. Now go on, tut tut, get to work," he looks at me critically.

I worm out of Eret's grasp, and the two of us take our leave. Once out of the van, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I cling to Eret's arm, dragging his with me to my room. He breathily laughs, but cuts it off as I drag him down onto the bed with me.

I lean into his chest, wrapping my arms around him. (Roadtrip just finished and imma admit that it's actually a bop but Dumb Ways To Die is even better) I let out a shakey breath. "Thank you," I say into Eret's overcoat, voice muffled by it. "For what?" He asks, while I look up.

"For everything," I start, "Thank you for help me, when Wilbur did what he did to me, thank you for inviting me with you, thank you for providing protection, thank you for being with me just now. Thank you for all that you did that you didn't."

During my small rant, Eret took off his glasses, and his illuminated white eyes soften at my words. He pulls me onto his lap, hugging me close to him. "Thank you, Y/N. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend and accomplice," he whispers gently into my ear, his breath stirring the hair above my ear.

I bury my face into the crook of his neck, tears leaking out of my eyes. It's hard to say from what I'm crying, but it feels like sixty pounds have been lifted off my shoulders. The rage from Wilbur, the anxiety that someone may find out that Eret and I are traitors, the knowledge of what I'm doing tomorrow.

The deep, dark cloud of emotions has been exiled by the tears that leak from me, replaced by the flicker of fire. A small, tender fire, incapable of damage, but able to tear down the country, given the perfect fuel.
