You tapped Carlos on his shoulder, with a bit of annoyance he turned around "What?!" He snapped at you. His eyes widened when he realized who you were. "Remember me?" You asked him. "Y/n! Mi Favorita enfermera!" He said happily and wrapped his arms around you. "Of course I remember you! How could I ever forget you!" You laughed at him. You didn't expect him to be so happy to see you but you were happy to see him too. "Why didn't you let me know you were coming to this race? We could have caught up before the race weekend." He said and pouted his lower lip. "It was supposed to be a surprise! If I told you it wouldn't be a surprise anymore. But I am here now, I have nowhere to be so if you have nothing to do we can catch up." You asked him. He looked at his PR guy for permission. "Your next meeting is in 65 minutes, so if you-." He couldn't even finish his sentence, Carlos already dragged you away from him.
"So what have you been up to lately?" Carlos asked you. "Uhmmm treating patients who are listening so much better than you did!" You said with a grin on your face. Carlos pushed your shoulder gently. "Shut up." He whispered. You looked at his brown eyes and couldn't help yourself and started to smile, you missed this muppet. You thought back at the day you met.
Eight months ago
You graduated a few weeks ago after five years of hard work and sleepless nights. You had put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into your work so you could do what you loved the most, being a nurse. The department manager came up to you and asked if you could come with him, which made you kind of nervous. "Y/n, I am sorry for interrupting your shift but I have a very important question to ask." He started. You said nothing so he continued. "Do you like formula one? Because your colleagues said you do not but I need to know if that's true." A very important weird question. "Yeah, dislike is a small expression of my opinion. I don't see the fun in driving very fast and putting your life in so much danger." You answered him. "Okay thank you, I know enough for now." You left his office with a weird feeling.
The next day you understood why he had asked you that question. Yesterday afternoon one of the formula one drivers got admitted with dehydration. The hospital had set up a special team to treat him, they didn't want unnecessary people around him and definitely not fans.
Your shift just started but you already knew it was going to be a hard one today, despite you had to take care of one person. The night shift told you everything you needed to know for now. Carlos Sainz was a difficult person you understood. It was now your job to give him an IV with extra fluids but he had refused it already five times.
"How many times do I need to say it! I don't want that stupid thing in my arm." He yelled at you. "Mr. Sainz you really need it! You are already dehydrated and we don't want it to get worse." You were almost begging him. He sighed deeply. "If I may ask, what is the reason you don't want it?" You got a chair and placed it next to his bed. "I just don't want." He said and turned his head to the window. Now it was your turn to sigh. "Well I can't do anything against your will but I can promise you that you will feel much better with the IV." You crossed your arms over your chest and relaxed a little in the chair, you didn't have any other patients to take care of so you decided to sit here for a while. After a few minutes he seemed to relax and looked at you. After a few minutes he finally spoke again. "Ugh, okay. Go ahead." He finally gave in. You almost did a happy dance. You got everything you need and within five minutes the IV was running.
"If something starts to beeb or you need anything, you can call me." You said, ready to walk away. "Nurse y/l/n." "You can call me by my first name, it's y/n." "Well, y/n are you able to stay? I feel quite lonely here." You didn't expect him to ask such a question, he looked very vulnerable now. "Yeah, if that is what you want. I can stay." You sat down on the chair again. He looked you up and down "You must be full of questions about my life." He said. "To be honest Carlos, I am not the biggest fan of your job but I am curious about one thing. How the hell did you get dehydrated?" He scratched his neck. "It's summer break now and I had a few drinks at a small party. The next day we went to the beach and I didn't eat and drink much. So that's the reason I am here now." He said ashamed. You rolled your eyes, classic answer. "I understood that most people with this kind of symptoms do not get admitted." "Yeah, that's true. I guess it's because you need to be healthy to race again and for now your blood pressure is too low and a few things in your blood were off." You said. "Have you been a nurse for long?" "No, not really. Actually I just graduated." "You wouldn't say that, you're the first one who really takes the time for me and asked me why I didn't want the IV." You liked this side of him, he was friendly and kind of open? So much better than half an hour before.
