without a place to sleep, i walked with the four back to the hideout in Eleftheria. while walking, the moon begin to rise and the air became more crisp. nearly every step we took had a slight crunch in it. there were night owls sitting high above in the trees while doing their behavioural calls.
after an hour of walking, something in me went off.
we were just in Philotimo territory..Eleftheria is only thirty minutes away from this kingdom..
then i realised something, i was in a trap. they weren't leading me back to Eleftheria, we were going to Cressida.
jungwoo noticed my abrupt stop and turned to face me.
"are you okay?"
ignoring his question, i turned around and looked at my surroundings.
something isn't right..
that somewhat nostalgic feeling rushed through my body but i had no clue where we were.
suddenly, i could hear the faint sound of horses galloping in the distance. as the faint sound grew louder, i immediately ran to the closest tree and climbed up.
these son of a bitches..
while looking down at them from the tree, the four of them looked around and ran off to hide.
"general huang i swear i saw her here!" one of them yelled.
from the back of my head, i knew exactly who it was. li yongqin, the first soldier i recruited when i was general.
"well guess what, there's no one here."
"general huang, he isn't lying. we all also saw people, including her." a voice that i recognised as dejun said.
renjun scoffed and jumped off his horse. he examined the ground and took a deep breath for any particular scent.
for some reason, seeing him do these basic things warmed my heart. maybe it was because i was the one who taught him these things, maybe it was because i missed my position as general.
"you weren't lying. there are multiple footprints that lead to different directions and one..strong fragrance." renjun stated.
"what smell is it?" yangyang asked while hopping off his horse.
"fire wood and magnolias." at his clear statement, i let out an angry yet quiet huff.
"come out li, we all know you're here." he yelled with a booming voice.
contemplating my decision, i decided to climb down from the tall tree. once i was fully in their sight, majority of them stood with wide eyes and hanging jaws while renjun wasn't surprised to see me.
while others didn't know, renjun and i occasionally met up and talked about things happening.
