xiaomei sat alone in an empty field of nothing in Eleftheria. she had just buried her mother so that she could rest peacefully. she decorated the ground with flowers in memorial of her mother.

hours passed and she still stayed by her mother's side, lying down as she watched the sun begin to set.

"quite surprised i was able to find you." a familiar voice spoke from beside xiaomei, taking a spot next to her on the grass.

xiaomei whipped her head to the side, eyes wide and mouth agape.

"what- how..why..what are you doing here? how'd you find me?" xiaomei asked. the younger male chuckled, turning his head away from her and towards the setting sun.

"i don't know but i assumed you'd be somewhere in Eleftheria so..i just wandered around i guess." jaemin replied.

"what happened? why'd you run away from your destined lover?" jaemin asked, pushing himself down with his eyes closed.

"long story short, i found out that my mother well..she is my mother but she isn't the one who birthed me. she was infertile and so she asked her closest friend to give birth - queen changying."

"then my mother got kidnapped and i had to find her but she died and so i killed them and turns out they were the people that biyu sent the day of the ambush. i also found out that one of my ancestors, late queen chunhua, has a chamber in the palace of Meraki and me being stubborn wants to find out what's there."

"it's a dangerous chamber xiaomei." jaemin stated firmly.

"what do you know about it? you seem to know something." xiaomei looked down at the male.

"your mother once tried to find out what was there, so did biyu. that's the sole reason why biyu caused the ambush, because she wanted to be the one to know everything. she sent out bandits to kill her number one rival, who coincidentally was her husband's best friend's wife. it's sad because she knew your mother as meixiu but not as meihui. meixiu was the lady underneath the mask, it was her real identity, meihui was who she was with the mask."

"if biyu knew your mother as meihui, she would've killed just her but the day of the ambush, your mother had her mask and everything and so the bandits didn't know who to kill. they were given a picture of your mother but they didn't find her so they killed everyone - including changying."

"i guess it runs in the family, we all hate biyu. although i'm confused on one thing, if biyu is changying's cousin doesn't that mean i'm related to her and...kunhang....?" xiaomei asked - her voice growing smaller at the end.

"not biologically. biyu was a peasant. during the great war that occurred years before we existed, biyu was five and changying was four. they were all kids who were protected in the arms of their parents. biyu's family being peasants, they didn't have protection. her parents died and she was left alone. changying's aunt and uncle then found her, raising her as their own. so no, she's not biologically related to you and you and kunhang can still love each other."

xiaomei gased at the last sentence, slapping the younger's arm. "i never said that!"

"but i'm serious mei, it's dangerous."

"then help me, help me find the chamber and it's secrets." xiaomei looked down at jaemin with big eyes full of hope.

"depends, did you bring all the journal's changying gave you?" jaemin raised a brow at the older.

xiaonei nodded her head.

"then i'll help."
