Connie snapped her fingers in my face. "Hello? Ameliaaaa?"

"Huh?" I snapped out of my thoughts.

"You okay?" She asked.

Adam scoffed. "Of course she's not. Her boyfriend's in the hospital."

"Shut up." Connie slapped his arm.

Thinking about Luis made me quiver. I hated seeing him in pain.

"Ignore him." Connie sighed.

"Mhm..." I hummed not engaging with her.

She sighed. "Listen, he's gonna be okay, I know it."

"I hope so..." I nervously picked at my fingers.

"Don't do that." Connie pulled my hands away from each other.

I huffed softly. "Sorry...I'm just worried."

"We all are," Connie nodded. "But he'll be okay. He got to the hospital just in time."

"How do you know?" Adam mocked.

"Geez, Adam!" Connie smacked him with a water bottle. "Shut up!"

I gasped lightly and Adam rolled his eyes. "Someone's grumpy..."

Connie scoffed and ignored him. "Anyways, I know he's okay."

I sighed. "But what if he's not?"

Connie grabbed both of my hands. "He is, okay? I know it."

I nodded slowly. "Yeah..."

She hugged me close to her side and rubbed my arm. "Let's try to do something that's not depressing."

I chuckled softly. "Okay."

We began talking about things to distract me from the fact that my boyfriend was practically dying. I kept shivering thinking about it.

"Amelia," Connie snapped her fingers again. "Don't get caught up in your thoughts."

"Sorry..." I mumbled.

"Try to stay away from the bad ones, okay? Think about the good ones."

I nodded. "Okay..."

I thought of all the good things which made me feel a lot better. I squirmed uncomfortably in this stupid chair. Hospital waiting rooms sucked. The walls were a boring shade of beige, the floor was that rough carpet stuff, and coughs echoed around us every few minutes.

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." I frantically stood up.

I walked fast to the bathroom and locked myself in a stall. I rested my back on the wall and tried to contain myself. My heartbeat was pounding in my ears as my face started to heat up. My breathing quickly got heavy and I shook my hands like crazy.

Calm down, calm the fuck down!

"Amelia?" I heard Connie's footsteps trail inside.

I couldn't answer. She walked in front of the stall I was in. "Amelia?"

"Hm?..." I hummed quietly.

"Lia, come out." She sighed.

I just closed my eyes in pain while tears streaked down my face. "No..."

"Don't make me bust this door down." Connie threatened.

"Connie," My voice cracked. "He's dead."

"Amelia, stop, he's not dead. Don't tell yourself that."

I sobbed harder. "There's no way he's alive."

"Amelia Peterson," Connie's voice was stern. "Do not say that. You need to stop denying that he's alive."

"I'm not trying to." I sniffed. "It just seems like the truth."

"It's not and you know that."

I sighed but didn't reply. She sighed. "Just come out, please. We get to see him soon."

I wiped the tears off of my cheeks and slowly opened the door. Connie's arms immediately wrapped tightly around my neck and I gasped from the impact.

"He's gonna be okay." She reassured.

Oh, I hope so.

Luis's mom walked in front of me and plopped down next to me. She had purple bags under her eyes and she looked very tired. I didn't blame her though, she's been at the hospital for almost twenty-four hours.

"Is he okay?" I asked.

She sighed. "Yeah...he's still sleeping."

"Still?..." I mumbled in disbelief.

She nodded. "Yup."

"He's still alive though, right?"

She swallowed. "He is, but I don't know how much longer he will be."

I felt my heart sink like an anchor. "What?..."

"He's not okay right now, honey. I don't know how much more his body can take."

Her eyes glistened with tears. I shook my head. "No, you're joking, right?"

"I wish I was." She shrugged.

I gasped and saw my hands starting to shake. No, no, no, she's lying. He's not dead yet.

"But," She started. "Knowing Luis, he'll be okay."

I sighed shakily and didn't say anything back. I was too upset to talk. I just stared off into the distance and thought about it. If he died, I was gonna die as well.

"Mrs. Mendoza?" A doctor frantically called out.

Her head snapped up. "That's me."

The doctor sighed shakily, "We need you urgently. Your son...well..."

She gasped lightly. "O-okay."

She quickly followed the doctor to wherever and my heartbeat sped up again. I hate this. Is he dead or not?! Ugh.

"Lia," Connie lightly rubbed my arm. "It's okay."

"He's dead, Connie."

She shook her head. "No, he's not. Maybe he woke up?"

I shook my head back. "He didn't. The doctor sounded very panicked."

She sighed and was about to say something, but we heard Luis's mom crying. I couldn't tell if she was crying with joy or pain. We then saw her run out of his room with tears running down her face.

"No..." I shook my head. "No!"

I stood up and bolted over to her, Connie chasing behind me. "Amelia!"

I caught up to Luis's mom and tried to comfort her. A flat-line heart monitor blared in my ears. I looked into Luis's room and saw a bunch of doctors trying to revive his limp body. He's dead...
