Benny sat next to me in the dugout. I don't even know why I came to the sandlot today, but he somehow convinced me.

"You seem sad," He sighed. "What's wrong?"

"Just something that happened with Luis." I shrugged.

"Oh...what happened this time?" He asked.

"Well, we broke up."

"Oh...I'm so sorry."

"It's fine. I don't think he meant to do it anyway. He was just stressed about something that happened to his little sister." I stated.

"Oh, um, what happened?" He tried not to sound nosey.

I swallowed nervously. "Um, he found out she has cancer."

His face dropped into sorrow. "Oh, that's horrible. I'm sorry."

I blinked my tears away and didn't say anything. He just sighed and shook his head lightly.

"When did he find out?" He asked.

"Sometime when he was in the hospital."

"Oh..." He mumbled. "Well, I hope everything goes smoothly."

"Me too." My voice cracked.

I could feel the tension in the air. This was kinda an awkward situation because I barely knew this kid and suddenly I'm telling him all the problems that are happening. Whatever.

"Hey, Lia." Connie chirped while sitting next to me.

"Hey...." I whispered.

"I'm guessing you've heard about Izzy?" Her voice was now depressing.

I nodded. "Mhm..."

She rubbed my back lightly. "I'm sorry."

I shrugged. "There's nothing I can do about it."

"You should at least spend more time with her." She suggested.

"But it'll be awkward," I groaned. "Luis won't wanna see me."

"Yes, he will." She nodded.

"How do you know?"

She sat up tall. "Because he told me himself."

I scoffed. "What did he say?"

"He said that he's stupid for breaking up with you and he regrets it a lot."

I raised one eyebrow in confusion. "Nah, you're lying. He didn't seem like he regretted it at all."

She shrugged. "I'm serious. You don't have to believe me but just know that he still loves you."

Benny's eyes widened slightly. "Woah, that's heavy."

Connie nodded. "Yeah, you need to get him back."

"No, I feel like we just need a slight break from each other," I stated.

Connie huffed. "Come on, Amelia. You need to stop running away from him."

I shrugged and stood up. "Too bad."

She stood up after me. "Where are you going?"

"I just wanna clear my head."

I then spun around and looked at Benny. "You wanna come with me?"

He stuttered for words. "Um, sure."

"Come on." I waved him over to me.

He frantically stood up and walked to my side. We began walking and I heard Connie scoff.
