As Evelyn regained her balance, she decided to see who her handsome savior was. As she peered into his eyes, she stuttered in disbelief, "K-kyle?" He too, was in shock. He stared at her with tears in his eyes. He moved forward to hug her, but she pushed his hand away. She wiped the tears off her face and proceeded to leave. Kyle grabbed her wrist, and said, "Evelyn. Let's talk. It's been years." Evelyn turned around and looked at him with agony, and scoffed, "Fine. We have one hour before orientation starts. We can talk all you want." They both walked to the nearest tree, to speak under the shade. Evelyn demanded an explanation from Kyle, as to why he broke his promise. At first, he was very confused, but then he realized that she was angry that he never visited her in these five years. He explained how he would always beg his parents to let him visit his friend from the restaurant, but his mother never let him, in fear that he would be taken away or kidnapped. Once, he tried to sneak out with the help of his step-brother Liam, but his mother eventually found out, and she got furious. To punish him, she took away his necklace (which was Evelyn's), which he claimed was from his friend from the restaurant. He explained how his depression spiraled after that, but his siblings helped him cope. Evelyn felt embarrased for misunderstanding him, and she apologized. She asked him if they could be friends again, and he responded by giving her a hug. 

After that, Kyle and Evelyn became best friends. They both helped each other study for exams and provided moral support to each other. They were inseparable best friends, and almost everyone on campus started shipping the two together. As their friendship grew, Kyle found himself falling for Evelyn. Evelyn, on the other hand, began to harbor a secret crush on her "guy best friend" Kyle. The two of them were falling in love with each other, unknowingly. One day, Evelyn overheard a classmate confessing to Kyle. Evelyn was shocked when Kyle replied to the confession by saying that he already had someone that he liked. Evelyn felt confused and hurt, and for a few days, she avoided him. She thought that Kyle's "crush" would steal him away from her, and she would be left hurt again. Kyle was very clueless as to why Evelyn was avoiding him, but her reclusive behavior perturbed him. He sent a text to Evelyn telling her to meet him at the beach at 7 pm. Evelyn, wanting to seduce him, arrived at the beach wearing a revealing sundress and a beach hat. Kyle greeted her and said, "Ev, let's talk. I really don't like that you're avoiding me for whatever reason. If you're going through a problem, share it with me. I'll be there for you. I want to share your happiness and sadness. I want to always be your pillar of support. I-I really like you, and I always have." 

Evelyn was shocked that the man she liked just confessed his feelings for her. "I'll never forget this day", she said, as she leaned in to kiss Kyle.
