Emily's pov:

Ever since that day when Y/N was kidnapped you had started having nightmares. Every time you closed your eyes you were reliving every moment of those days from finding your car empty in the dark parking lot to sitting in the hospital waiting room not knowing if she would make it out of surgery alive or not.

You hadn't told Y/N because you didn't want to be a burden. She was already going through so much because of what happened and you didn't want to make it worse.

The first six months were really hard. Y/N wasn't herself at all but she tried so hard for you to pretend that everything was normal but nothing was normal anymore, how could it be?.

Y/N was distant. When she was with you she was there physically but her mind was hundreds of miles away. She was a whole different person. She used to be soft and warm but now she was just there, just distant. She had stopped smiling almost completely like she'd always do before when she was with you.

You didn't blame her though. After everything that had happened you understood that she reacted this way but you missed your girl so much and it hurt you seeing her like this, like the light had been sucked out of her leaving nothing but darkness.

Every night when you two went to bed you'd wait for her to fall asleep and lay there watching her for awhile. You were scared to close your eyes so you stayed up most of the nights but making sure to be back in bed before she woke up.

-

It was now 3am and you were sitting at the kitchen table just looking out the window watching the dark silhouettes of the buildings outside. You were hugging your knees to your chest and resting the side of your head on top of your arms.

You heard footsteps coming into the kitchen.

"Em?" A sleepy voice called out.

Y/N came into the kitchen rubbing her eyes.

"Why are you awake it's 3am?" She asked sitting down at the table.

"Oh no reason I just woke up and couldn't go back to sleep" you said giving her a small smile.

She reached out taking your hand in hers making you look up.

"Emily I know when you're lying. Please talk to me" she said holding your gaze.

You sighed. You knew she wouldn't stop pushing until you told her what was wrong.

"It's not a big deal" you said looking back at her.

She cupped your cheek with her hand tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.

"Well you're not sleeping so I think it's a pretty big deal actually" she said now in a less soft tone.

You took a deep breath.

"Every time I close my eyes I'm back in the parking lot where I find my car keys on the ground and my car empty. I don't know where you are for days or if you're even alive. Then I'm back in that building holding your lifeless body in my arms as you slowly slip away from me. I hear the sirens of the ambulance and I hold your hand all the way to the hospital while your heartbeat is dropping faster and faster for each minute that goes by. Then I'm in the waiting room being told that you might now wake up and I'm losing you all over again. I relive those days over and over again every time I close my eyes." You hadn't even noticed you were crying until Y/N reached out and wiped your tears with her thumb.

"Why didn't you tell me you were having nightmares?" Her words coming out in a gentle whisper.

"I didn't want to make things worse for you. You are already going through so much it just didn't feel important" you said looking down.
