Ring! Ring! Ring!
Class was already over and Yamaguchi had no notes written in his book. He only got the parts in the first half of class, before he got distracted by Tsukishima.
Now, it was lunchtime and Yamaguchi was still caught up in all of his thoughts.
"It's lunch, let's go." Tsukishima brought Yamaguchi back into reality, sort of commanding Yams with a blunt tone.
"U-Uh sure!" Yamaguchi stammered a bit, kind of startled by the sudden presence of Tsukki.
Before Yamaguchi could get up to go to lunch, Tsukishima was already two feet out of the door. Tsukishima had a habit of walking ahead and leaving Yamaguchi behind but eventually paused at a destination where Yams could catch up.
"Wait Tsukki, let me use the bathroom first!" Yamaguchi called out to the blonde boy as he nodded, waiting there for Yams.
Yamaguchi entered the bathroom, haistedly making sure no one was in here. He had a lot of thoughts swirling in his mind, making his head ache.
What's going on?
Why do I feel like this?
He's just a friend!
No, more than a friend! Those thoughts swarmed his head as his throat started to close up, tears stinging the corner of his eyes. They weren't tears of sadness, they were tears of frustration because he couldn't figure out what was going on with himself.
"Come on Yamaguchi, I'm hungry." Tsukishima's voice suddenly echoed through the bathroom, making Tadashi's tears retract back into his eyes a little. He didn't want Tsukishima to see him crying because he knew Tsukki would think it's 'lame'.
"C-Coming!" Yamaguchi stuttered, his voice a tad bit hoarse, taking in a deep breath before heading out of the bathroom.
"Are you okay?" Tsukishima suddenly asked, as Yamaguchi exited the bathroom. "Your eyes look red." He added, in a bored tone of voice.
"Just fine!" Tadashi plastered a fake-ish smile on his face, giving his best friend two thumbs up. "Let's go." Yamaguchi exclaimed, walking ahead of Tsukishima for once.
This confused Tsukishima because no matter how cheery Yamaguchi was, he never walked ahead of his best friend. He was awfully giddy too after coming out of the bathroom, even though his eyes were red, and glistening.
But, Tsukishima just shrugged it off, not worrying too much about it because of course, it was only an assumption.
The two boys grabbed their lunches, taking a seat with all of the other Karasuno's volleyball players. This table was absolute chaos, like usual though.
Nishinoya and Tanaka were taking food off of each others plate, fighting over a piece of meat. Daichi and Sugawara were chatting it up with Asahi and Ennoshita, while they ate the food on their trays. Kageyama and Hinata were bickering once again, like an old, married couple.
"Do you guys ever stop fighting?" Tsukishima scoffed, placing his hand under his chin, watching Kageyama and Hinata.
"BE QUIET AND BUTT OUT!" Kageyama shouted towards Tsukki, continuing to bicker with Hinata.
But Yamaguchi didn't chime in his normal snicker along with Tsukishima. Yams was poking his food around with his fork, not eating it even after starving from this morning.
"What's with you today?" Tsukishima grumbled, watching the green-ish haired boy pick at his food, not taking a bite. Yamaguchi must've not heard him because, he just kept poking at the meat and rice in his lunch box. "Yamaguchi." Tsukki blurted, making Yamaguchi stop poking at his food.
"Hm?" Yamaguchi asked Tsukki, looking up with a blank, confused look on his face.
"I asked what's wrong with you today?" Tsukishima's face twisted up, getting a bit impatient with the little freckled boy.
"Nothing's wrong Tsukki!" Yamaguchi reassured his best friend, hoping he wouldn't pry any more.
Luckily for Yamaguchi, Tsukishima didn't ask anymore questions, going back to rile Kageyama and Hinata up once again.
But for Yamaguchi, he watched as Hinata pouted towards Tsukishima as he teased them some more. Yamaguchi felt like his insides were twisting up, slowly getting smaller and smaller, squeezing together. He had no idea on why he was feeling like this.
Was it because the lack of eating? The stress from the test they had tomorrow? Or was it because something totally different, not having to do with food or school at all?
"I'll be right back." Yamaguchi muttered towards Tsukishima, suddenly getting up and speed-walking out of the cafeteria while his head hung low.
Tsukishima could barely hear what Yamaguchi told him but, he just saw the boy walk out the cafeteria in a hurry. He debated on whether he'd go after Yamaguchi or not, eventually making up his mind.
In the hallways, Yamaguchi was rushing through it, not having a clue on where he was going. The only thing he knew was that, he felt sick to his stomach. It wasn't that he felt like throwing up, he just felt as his insides started getting smaller and smaller, eventually having his organs crash together. Even though he knew that wasn't possible...right?
He quickly made his way outside, near the water fountains. He inhaled the fresh air, also taking a huge gulp of water.
"What's wrong with me?" Yamaguchi asked himself, leaning himself against the metal water fountain. "Maybe I have a stomach bug or something?" He mumbled to himself.
"Hey, what's going on?" A concerned voice spoke, as Yamaguchi's head suddenly flung up, wondering who it was.
It wasn't the normal tall, blonde boy he was used to seeing, but it was Sugawara.
"I just feel a bit sick." Yamaguchi responded, a bit disappointed but also a bit relieved it wasn't Tsukishima. "Like not a nauseous type of sick but, it feels like my insides are twisting up and colliding with each other." He sighed, taking another gulp of water.
"Come, you can talk to me." Sugawara's tone was so sweet, and gentle that it made Yamaguchi feel a tad bit better.
"I-It's just that, well I don't know." Yamaguchi stuttered, having a hard time getting whatever he had to say out. "I have no clue on what's going on with me." He sighed, the tears starting to sting a little again. He forced himself to keep it down though.
"When do you start feeling this way?" Sugawara asked Yamaguchi, crossing his arms, ready to listen on whatever Yams had to say.
At first, Yamaguchi hesitated because he really didn't know why he felt this way. But, his thoughts eventually made his way to one thing, or shall I say, one person. The person that's been unknowingly swarming his mind for the past month. His best friend.
"When I'm with Tsukki." Yamaguchi finally spat out, his face getting a bit hot at the thought of this conversation.
But, Sugawara didn't respond. He just gave Yamaguchi a comforting and warm smile. He had a slight suspicion on something but, those four words gave Sugawara all the information he needed.
