It was nearing the end of Cassidy, aka Cassie, Swan's shift as she switched her computer screen off and threw on her red leather jacket. Her brown eyes flickered over to Yasmin Khan, her best friend, who was trying to persuade their commanding officer about doing more. Since joining the force, both of them have been partnered up and dumped with parking disputes and other boring stuff that Ramesh didn't fancy dealing with.
Cassie didn't have a problem with it because as long as she was with Yaz, nothing else mattered. She quite liked that everything was simple at the moment and there wasn't any murder cases or anything like that. The brunette wasn't sure how she would explain just knowing stuff, most people don't have telepathic powers.
And Cassie wasn't the type to just sit back and let bad things happen like letting murderers or rapists get away with crimes. That just wasn't who she was, which was why she didn't fight harder with Ramesh about getting tougher cases.
Finally Yaz finished her rant with Ramesh and stormed over to Cassie, who was waiting by the door with a grimace on her chapped lips. Her crazy, curly chestnut brown hair was whipped into a lazy ponytail and dark brown eyes hidden behind two thick square frames. She didn't need the glasses but they helped her mind focus on what was in front of her instead of all the voices in her head, needing to be heard.
"Anything?" Cassie asked, frowning sympathetically. She already knew the answer, as Yaz's mind was screaming it. Again Ramesh denied them and they now were dumped with another issue.
Yasmine sighed as she grabbed Cassie's wrist and pulled her out of the station towards their police vehicle. A groan leaving her lips, Cassie leapt in front of her determined bestie and grabbed her by the shoulders.
"Yaz, what the hell?" Cassie said, eyes lit with confusion. "Aren't we done for the night? Movies and pizza right?"
Yaz smiled apologetically, cheeks blushing. "Sorry Cassie. Ramesh...something came up and he wants us to check it out"
"Of course," Cassie sighed, disappointedly. She shook away the disappointment with a fake smile and pulled open the car door. This always happened, every single time, but this time Yaz looked really worried about it. Her thoughts were rambling and weren't making sense either, giving Cassie a banging headache. So the brunette bit back her complaints and looked back at her bestie with a raised eyebrows. "Okay, let's do this thing. Tell me about it on the way"
"Thanks Cassie," Yaz said with a grin. She slipped into the driver's seat and pulled her seatbelt into place. Then the two police officers were off down the road, neither realising that this very event would change their lives forever.
....
And Cassie realised Yasmine Khan was right to be worried. They had parked at the car park near the woods and met a guy, who Cassie learnt from his mind was called Ryan Sinclair. His thoughts were scrambled with confusion and a slight hint of panic but what Cassie had saw in them made her eyes widen for a split second. It was a strange rock thingy and Cassie knew without a question that it was alien. What alien she didn't know. She only knew the aliens mentioned from her Father's, who was an alien himself, information device and that barely covered an quarter of the alien species out there.
The brunette grabbed Yasmine's arm and together they followed Ryan. She released Yaz's arm and carefully examined the rock from a distance. It looked exactly how Ryan thought it. Strange, dark with ragged bits on it and clearly not belonging in the woods around them. Her mind was trying to look into it, trying to sense any sort of life inside, but it was coming up blank. In fact it made her head sear with a sharp, painful heat and she stumbled away from the thing.
