After leaving the bus yard, they walked towards a big building with a sign that had whites only on it. Sahara Springs Motel. Cassie felt bitter anger at seeing it and glanced over at Ryan and Yaz with a frown.
"I'm getting pretty sick of seeing that sign," Ryan grumbled.
"Me too," Cassie said furiously, feeling sadness for her friends.
"So, how are we going to do this?" Yaz asked.
Ten minutes later, Cassie and the Doctor booked a large room whilst Graham helped Ryan and Yaz sneak in through the window.
"In you come, before anyone sees, " Graham said.
"Well, this is fun, " Ryan muttered.
"Last time I sneaked into someone's room by a window was Danny Biswas in Year 10," Yaz said, making Cassie laugh.
"You just went right down in my estimation, " Ryan said.
Yaz shrugged. "All right"
Cassie and Graham shared looks before the Telepath threw herself on one of the beds. As much as she loved the pair, she really didn't want to hear them flirt. Got enough of that with their thoughts. She perched herself against the wall with a sigh.
"Why can't we just stay in the Tardis?" Graham asked, glaring around with distaste.
"Our friend with the temporal displacement weapon's got eyes on it. We go in and out of there, we're going to run into him again and I don't want to just yet. Not till we've figured this out, " The Doctor answered grimly.
"And this is better? Smuggling ourselves into crummy motels?" Ryan huffed angrily.
"I just need a moment to work this out, " The Doctor said.
"Yeah, like, what do we actually know?" Yaz asked.
"Well, 1955, Montgomery, one day away from Rosa Parks refusing to give her seat up on a bus, " Graham said.
"Meanwhile, we've got an out-of-time impostor skulking at the bus works with a temporal displacement weapon, " Cassie said sarcastically, making Yaz grin in her direction. Cassie grinned sarcastically. "Just fantastic!"
"I understand weapon, but not sure about temporal or displacement, " Ryan said, amusedly.
"Displaces you through Time. A blast hits you, you're thrown through Time to wherever the user has set it. He had it set for the very far future, " The Doctor explained grimly.
Ryan frowned. "That's horrible"
"Yes. And it uses artron molecules. That, plus his Vortex Manipulator were presumably what the Tardis detected when it brought us here, " The Doctor said.
"So do we think he's trying to kill Rosa Parks or use that weapon on her?" Yaz wondered.
"He's been here a while. He set up base at the bus works. If he wanted to get rid of her, why has he not done it already?" Cassie asked.
"Besides, the sonic picked up something else on him, but I'd need to go back to make sure. Right, what do you remember about Rosa from school?" The Doctor asked as she started writing on the wall, making the team gape at her.
"Oi, whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you doing?" Graham asked. "That is vandalism. We'll have to pay for that"
"Don't worry, special pen, " The Doctor said, grinning proudly as she waved it around.
"No, pack it in. You ain't Banksy, " Graham scolded.
The Doctor winked. "Or am I?"
"Graham, you were asking for it, " Cassie said with a laugh as Graham sighed exasperatedly.
