15. Nightmares and secrets unfold

"Mama?"

"Mama are you playing hide n seek?"

"Mama? Where did you go?"

"Mummy why did you leave me"  i screamed in from my sleep tossing and turning in my bed. Replaying the same nightmare i get every time someone mentions my mother.

"MAMA!!"

"Adelaide wake up! Adelaide " the voice called out to me. The person who was calling out to me was shaking me lightly trying to wake me up.

"Come on Engel, wake up" I hear bucky said worry in his tone, rubbing circles on my shoulder

Why can't I get up?

I feel like I'm opening my eyes but I can't open them. All I see is my mother getting killed in front of my eyes. Seeing her pale skin slip from colour and her lifeless body laying dead on the floor. The bullet in her stomach dripping with blood smearing everywhere. All I see is red.

Why?

Why did she lie about her death?

Is she really still alive?

After all these years, why now? Why now when I'm fully emotion free and no anxiety anymore but I know it's still there but not that bad anymore like it used to.

"Adelaide " Another voice called out to me.

I jolted up looking around the room. How did I get into bed? when did i?

Staring the room robbing my eyes taking in my surroundings I see a worried father, nervous pepper and mostly I see a frightened Bucky with sadness in his eyes.

"Sweetheart are you ok?"

Sweetheart. Toroso. That's what my mother called me in Italian when 'she was alive'.
But I didn't really mind pepper saying over time as she is my mother.

"Uh..yeah I'm fine just a nightmare. Nothing to worry about"

"Are you sure? Cause that didn't look fine, you panting in your sleep and calling out your mum" Bucky ask in a calm voice but I could feel his hand on mine shaking a little bit.

He cares.

"Yeah I just need water. Then I'll be fine"  Bucky didn't believe what I said but I tried getting him a reassuring look that I'm ok but didn't fall for it. I signed.

"I'll go get you some. Tony can you help me please. I can't reach the cupboard from this bump." Tony nodded and smiled down at me before leaving. Pepper turned around before leaving looking between me and Bucky smirking.

What was that?

I turned to Bucky with him already looking at me waiting for the real answer.

"Engel, tell me the truth please. What was wrong with you?" He asked pleading into my eyes with just a hint of sadness in between his eyes.

"Buck.. I will tell you I promise but can we talk about it tomorrow? I just want you to stay with me" he hesitated at first seeing if I'm telling the truth but after a few seconds he sighed and nodded I moved over in my bed letting him lay beside me. Placing my head of his broad chest.
