With the arrival of the remaining Karasuno team members, coach ukai and takeda had an announcement. The players sat in a semi circle on the floor awaiting the sudden news. They hadn't been expecting anything anytime soon.
'Must be a practice match.' Suga thought to himself. He couldn't think of a better explanation.
"I'll make this short so you all can get to practicing. As you all know, our third years will be leaving in a matter of months. In other words, the best defense this team has will wash away. Without you third years, this team is kinda screwed; especially without Daichi. His ability to keep the ball in the air has saved you many times in the past months." Ukai took a step back and waved a hand at takeda, signaling it was his turn to speak.
"With that being said, we've taken the overall fitness and health level of our players into consideration," pushing up his glasses, takeda flipped through his clipboard, "The majority of the first and second years on this court lack either stamina or strength, or both. Without the physical ability to keep our defense strong, we won't be able to keep up... So ukai and I have devised an individual meal and workout plan for each of you. I just hope the time and effort put into these doesn't go to waste. Obviously, we can't be certain whether or not you all follows these plans."
"So when you're about ready to leave for the day, just grab yours on the way out. And please, make sure you grab your paper. Trust me, if someone like Hinata were to switch diets and exercise with say, Tanaka, I don't think there would be any benefit. Get what I'm saying?" Ukai finished.
"Yes!" The team stood and bowed then ran off in their own directions.
Unlike usual, Hinata gravitated toward suga. He would usually be practicing with Kageyama the entire time but lately, suga had been quite helpful.
"Hey, human tangerine, try that serve again!" Hinata looked back to see Kageyama shouting to him from the other side of the court. His stance showed a clear desire to receive a ball.
Hinata might just not be the person able to give it to him.
He glanced at suga for some sort of reassurance but only got a quick thumbs up and the words "You'll be fine" mouthed silently. A mini speech would have been preferred but to be fair, Hinata usually has enough self confidence to go around... Just not in the presence of angry blueberries like Kageyama.
Hinata gave the taller boy a nod and grabbed a ball. In attempt to calm his nerves, he tried ignoring Kageyama. It didn't really work...
That only made him think about the situation even more.
'Whatever, just go for it shoyo.'
He tossed his anxiety to the side for a moment as he prepared his first step. Too bad that single moment of confidence quickly dissipated as Hinata was floating in the air.
The ball just fell to the floor, unbothered, not even attempted at being hit.
Why was this so hard? All he had to do was walk, run, jump, and hit. A simple series of steps that took almost no effort the last two times.
Before Kageyama got a chance to nag, Hinata shouted, "Sorry! I wasn't in line with the ball, I'll try again."
After waiting a moment for protest and not getting a single negative response, Hinata decided he was in the clear to try again.
The steps played over in his mind as he was halfway into the motion. Just a few simple things to do in order... That's all he had to do.
Mid jump, he decided it was best to try and change his mindset. Because why think of your hot teammate while practicing when you can be thinking of how far in life this one serve can get you?
