"Where did you learn to jump serve? I didn't know you could do those." Suga walked over to him with interest. No one had seen Hinata pull off a jump serve."Actually...I haven't practiced them at all. I just figured a normal serve would be too risky to use against you. So I kinda tried doing what Kageyama does, it wasn't too hard. Did my form look okay?"
Suga looked at him like he was crazy. Jump serves take weeks and even months of practice to get right, yet here Hinata just pulled one off for the first time with near-perfect form. Sure, there wasn't much power behind it because of his small figure, but goddamn, how did he do that?
This kid really was Karasuno's secret weapon.
"You're form was perfect... Are you sure you haven't even attempted a jump serve before?" Suga was sure he at least practiced them in his spare time. Something. He had to of.
"Haha well...funny story; one time I asked Kageyama if he could teach me to serve like him, so he did one to demonstrate and when I tried, I missed the ball and fell on my face. He refused to help me after that so I sorta forgot about it altogether." Hinata gave a sheepish smile.
"I see... So that serve just now was by chance?" If that serve wasn't by chance, then this takes karasuno's offense to a whole 'nother level.
"I guess so, but I can try it again the next time it's my turn to serve. Maybe if I can learn to do them consistently, I'll get better than Kageyama." His voice displayed an intense rivalry and eagerness.
With a smirk, suga began, "Why do you think you messed up that serve so bad when you were with Kageyama?," he walked closer to Hinata, his smirk never leaving, "Cause hear me out- maybe you have a natural talent for jump serves but being around Kageyama that day prevented you from showing your true skill."
Suga's behavior was more than strange to Hinata. He couldn't pinpoint what the older was getting at. Why would being around Kageyama mess up his ability to play?
Seeing Hinata's confusion, suga went on. "You might not realize it but Kageyama affects you much more than you think."
"But in what way, why would I do so bad around him? I'm sure that serve was just a fluke, no way I can do it again. It makes no sense that being around him messes me up." Hinata still wasn't getting suga's point but he'd get there eventually.
"Let me put it into more simple words. Did you feel sort of...fluttery..around Kageyama? Or do you ever get a strange feeling in your stomach? You might even experience a raised heart rate."
"Now that you mention it..."
Hinata's words were interrupted by a knock at the door.
Suga perked up. "We'll continue this conversation later, I'll go open the door." He gave an excited smile right before rushing off.
Hinata followed close behind and watched as suga slid open the doors.
Of all people, he never expected to see iwaizumi. Wasn't he a spiker? Hinata never really payed attention to his defense skills before.
"Iwa! Glad you made it here, where's the other one? There shouldn't be any girls to crowd him since everyone's gone home for the day..." Suga glanced outside, expecting to see another seijoh member.
With a sigh, iwaizumi leaned against the door frame. "That shittykawa is still in the car. For what? Who the hell knows. I wouldn't put anything past him at this point. Just last week he tried to have the team play truth or dare- dirty truth or dare at that."
Suga chuckled. "Hinata and I were actually just playing truth or dare. But ours involved receives and definitely wasn't inappropriate."
"So the grand king is here?" Hinata asked, looking up at iwaizumi.
