Jinwoo spent the next hour wandering through the party, flitting aimlessly between different groups of friends. He needed to take his mind off Lucy but wherever he went, he saw glimpses of her long blonde hair or a flash of her smile amongst the crowd.
He was filled with guilt over trying to kiss her, knowing full well that he shouldn't have gone that far. He had no right to lead her on like that.
But if he knew all that, why did he do it?
He was surprised at the way Lucy responded when he held back from the kiss. The moment she touched his hand, he felt comforted by her. It eased the pain of the memories that surfaced - his tearful promises not to cause trouble for Astro again, Soojin's angry messages on his phone when he broke up with her... it all came rushing back, sending a wave of anxiety over him.
Now he felt terrible and he wanted to go home, but he needed to talk to Lucy before leaving. He owed her that.
The problem was that he didn't know what to say to her.
Hi Lucy...
I'm sorry for trying to kiss you... because I'm so attracted to you that I can't think straight...
I'm sorry for playing with your heart... because you've captured mine and I don't know what to do...
I'm sorry, I can't think of any way that I could make you happy while I'm an idol...
Oh no... What was he going to do?
He walked over to the balcony so that he could look out across each story. He spotted her little blonde head bobbing around on the level below. She was laughing with her friends, some girls that he didn't know.
Then Eunwoo appeared and all the girls reacted the same way. Dazzled by his presence, they all turned their attention and their smiles in his direction.
Except Lucy, her eyes scanned the room as though searching for someone. She stopped scanning when she looked directly across at Jinwoo. Tilting her head to the side, she raised a hand to give him a little wave.
He had to go to her. He needed to talk to her, to explain his actions and make things right.
They could still be friends... he would ask her to schedule a time to meet in the studio. They could work on music together.
Everything would be fine.
He looked for a route through the crowd to get to her and began heading in her direction, twisting past people on a path to reconciliation.
But at the bottom of the stairs, he came face to face with someone who purposefully blocked his way.
His ex-girlfriend, Soojin stood in the middle of his imaginary pathway, glaring at him.
She was the last person that he wanted to see tonight and she didn't look happy to see him either.
