Lucy had been keeping an eye out for Jinwoo as the night went on. She was having a good time with her friends, but she was worried about him.
Just when he looked like he was going to come and talk to her, she saw him get cornered by Soojin.
Soojin had approached her earlier with nasty things to say about Jinwoo. She seemed to assume that Lucy was dating him and Lucy didn't bother to correct her.
She heard a lot about how hard it was to love a celebrity and how she would lose out in the end. Lucy sighed. Of course it was difficult, your lover had a complicated life and often you came second to that. But Lucy had never blamed Taeho for that.
Soojin didn't know that she'd almost married a much more famous celebrity. Kim Taeho was internationally famous on a whole other level to Jinwoo. Every single thing they did was in secret, even when they travelled overseas, they used private air travel just in case.
Lucy filtered through Soojin's words. She was clearly still hurt and angry with Jinwoo. But nothing Soojin said surprised her, and her warnings to stay away from him seemed more like pleading for Lucy to stay away from a man that she was still in love with.
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, Lucy saw Jinwoo run upstairs and outside into the rain.
She was about to go after him, but on second thought, it was probably best if one of his Astro members went. They knew him better than anyone, they were like brothers to him.
She nudged Eunwoo who was standing next to her and told him what she had seen. He didn't seem that concerned, so they stayed where they were.
But after half an hour, Jinwoo still hadn't reappeared. Anxious, Lucy pressed Eunwoo again to go after Jinwoo.
He finally agreed and they went upstairs together. Eunwoo poked his head outside in the rain and peered around the balcony.
"There's no one there," he said, bringing his wet head back indoors.
"Are you sure?" Lucy asked, she stepped all the way out onto the balcony and swerved around.
Then she saw him, standing hunched over in the downpour with his back against the wall.
"Oh my gosh! Jinjin!" She cried, running towards him.
Startled, Eunwoo came out after her. He swore when he saw Jinwoo.
"Hyung! What are you doing?!"
"Go get a coat, Dongmin!" Lucy cried. She lent over and felt Jinwoo's cheek. He was cold and wet. His face was pale and his eyes were red. When he looked at her it was like he saw her, but his mind was far away.
Oh my gosh, Jinwoo! You're breaking my heart, she cried in her head.
Eunwoo grabbed his phone and held it to his ear. After a pause, he gave out orders to someone.
"Come to the second floor balcony and grab a coat. Hurry! ...It's Jinjin!"
Lucy grabbed Jinwoo's hands and rubbed them between hers, trying to warm them.
"Let's get him inside!" Eunwoo cried.
"Wait!" Lucy went around the corner, careful not to slip, she descended down a hidden back staircase.
It was still there, a small covered court yard on the bottom floor that consisted of a wooden dining table surrounded by potted plants. It was closed off to the partiers because its only other access was to the kitchen.
She went back upstairs and signalled for Eunwoo to follow her with Jinjin. He managed to bring him downstairs and help him into a chair.
"How did you know this was here?" Eunwoo asked.
"Jiho's lived here for years. I haven't been here in a long time but I remember the layout," she explained.
While Eunwoo gave more instructions over the phone, Lucy tried the door handle to the kitchen, expecting it to be locked.
"It's open!" she exclaimed, entering through the door and looking for the bathroom that used to be adjacent to the kitchen.
She grabbed towels and then once back in the kitchen, a cup of water. She tossed a towel to Eunwoo and placed the cup in front of Jinwoo.
They heard footsteps coming down the stairs and MJ appeared with a coat. He cried out when he saw Jinwoo sitting limp in the chair.
"Jinjin! What the... what the hell?! What the hell is going on?!" He ran over to Jinwoo and though he was all wet, he hugged him, grabbed the towel out of Eunwoo's hand and began drying him, wiping down his face and arms.
"Jinjin, what's happened? Talk to me!" MJ cried, holding Jinwoo's face in his hands.
Jinwoo looked over at Lucy and scrunched up his face, covering it with his hands.
Horrified at his reaction, Lucy gasped.
Was seeing her that upsetting for him?
Seeing him like this was heart-rendering. All she wanted to do was wrap her arms around him and take care of him.
"Yah," MJ turned on her, thinking Jinwoo was embarrassed to cry in front of her, "you won't say anything about this will you?"
"She's not like that! Lucy is the one who found him and brought me to him!" Eunwoo exclaimed, moving to stand defensively in front of her.
"It's okay, I'll give you guys some space to talk. Maybe I can go and find some dry clothes of Jiho's. It might take a little while, his bedroom is on the top floor."
Startled, Eunwoo frowned and gave her a funny look.
"Yeah... yeah okay, go and ask him," he told her.
She was just going to take the clothes. Jiho was a generous guy, he wouldn't think twice about her borrowing them.
She told them to make Jinwoo something warm to drink from the kitchen and set off upstairs.
