It was now lunchtime, and Collin and I walked to the cafeteria to meet up with Dominique, buy lunch, and then eat outside at the gazebo.
"Tiara, it's finally time to tell me what is happening between you and France," Dom said nonchalantly.
"We have to buy lunch first, then I'll tell you. We're not even friends," I said, boredom lacing my tone.
"Anything you say, but I still want to know everything," she replied, not giving up.
As we stood in line to buy lunch, a pretty brunette walked up to us. "Hey, I'm Malia. And who are you?" This must be the girl Collin told me about. This was causing a lot of unwanted attention. Despite the ranting in my head, I said, "I'm Tiara, resident new girl."
"Well, Teetee, why don't you come sit with us? It's better to hang with the popular crew."
I politely declined, even though I wanted to scream NO at her for using my mom's nickname. "No thanks, I'm okay with where I'm at."
She scowled, then flipped me off. "Whatever."
"You've just made an enemy. Why would you do that just to hang with us?" Dom asked.
"You guys are way cooler. Let's just buy our lunch, then go outside and talk. You can ask me whatever you want. Whether about France or anything else." In my head, I hoped they wouldn't ask about my mom.
After that confrontation, I bought two slices of pizza and a Coke since I didn't eat any breakfast. Dom bought a salad, and Collin bought chicken nuggets and fries. Both accompanied their meals with water. They led me through the cafeteria doors, but before we could fully make it to the gazebo, I heard an all too familiar voice shouting my name.
"Tiara, you ran out of bio so quickly I didn't get the chance to say goodbye," he said, running up to me. The two people who stood beside me looked completely starstruck, with curiosity sparking in their eyes as they looked at me to gauge my reaction.
"Well, you were drawing too much attention to me, and I didn't want anyone to care about my life."
"Tsk tsk tsk. If you hang with me, everyone will always be watching you," he said cockily, while his two lackeys appeared behind him, looking utterly uninterested in whatever was going on.
"Well, it's a good thing I don't want to hang with you, France."
"You wound me, darling. I thought we were friends after I brought you to the secret waterfall," he whispered the last part about the waterfall, then faked being hurt by grabbing his chest dramatically.
"You thought wrong because we are most definitely not friends. Even though you took me out, you owed me for spilling gravy over my dress. By the way, that stain still won't come out." My two new friends looked utterly shell-shocked, not knowing what to think about my adventures with France. I guess I didn't have to tell them what happened between him and me.
"Darling, just come sit with us for lunch, please. You could even bring your friends," he said, shocking both my friends and his. They all looked at me fervently to hear what I had to say. I could see it in Dom's eyes—she wanted to go sit with them, yet Collin looked really indifferent about whether or not we should sit with the boys.
"I don't think my friends want to," I gave them a look to say, 'Back me up, guys.'
"It's your decision, Tiara," Dom said, begging me with her eyes to go sit with them, but I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself. After sitting with them today, I'd have to do it every day, and I didn't want to.
"Maybe next time, France," I said stubbornly.
"I respect your decision, darling." I rolled my eyes at the stupid nickname.
