The dancing was just the beginning of the party; the best was most definitely yet to come. After tiring ourselves out on the dance floor, we decided to take a break to get some refreshments and find the boys.
They've been acting suspicious since this morning.
Dominique took me to the table designated for Ale, Noah, herself, and me. I sat down to catch my breath; my heels were killing me. Dom went to get some refreshments for us.
"Hey Tiara, you look amazing," a hoarse voice from my left said.
"Hi Brick," I said to a guy in my Geography class. He seemed drunk.
"Come dance with me, beautiful," he said, holding onto my hand.
"No, thank you. I'm tired, plus I don't think Alejandro would like that," I told him.
"You're no fun," he said, his face contorted in an ugly pout.
"I like it that way," I said, deciding to ignore him.
"Okay, let's go outside to talk," he insisted, pulling my hand and destroying my bracelet in the process.
"Let me go," I whimpered because he was hurting me.
His grip loosened on me when I felt him getting pushed. His grip disappeared entirely when he got a punch square in his jaw.
"Leave!" the voice seethed.
"France?" I asked, looking at his towering frame.
"Tiara, you okay?" he asked when the douchebag left.
"I—" before I could continue, the mic feedback was heard.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is the moment you've all been waiting for: Homecoming King and Queen coronation," our principal said.
"Wait, there is a tie. Hold on while we recount the votes, please," she said, leaving the stage.
Alejandro, Noah, and Dom ran up to us after seeing the commotion. I was glad the announcement was postponed.
"Are you okay, bae?" Ale asked me.
"I-I'm fine now, France came before..." I whimpered, holding back tears.
France lifted up my hand, looking at my wrist, while Noah took my bracelet off the floor.
"Here. Have some water," Dom said, handing me a bottle of room-temperature water.
I pulled the bottle, hands shaking, but let the cool water slide down my throat, calming my nerves in the process.
"Your wrist has his handprints on it," France said, observing it closer for further inspection.
"I'm gonna kill that motherfucker," Alejandro said, getting angry. That made me angry because he wasn't there. So much for protecting the people he loves.
"Stop!" I said, my voice steady and dripping with venom. "You weren't here when you should've been. You have no say in this," I said harshly, then walked off to the bathroom, Dom following closely behind.
When I got inside the bathroom, I allowed the tears to fall. Thank God this is waterproof makeup. Three hundred dollars is worth something after all.
"You sure you're okay?" Dom asked, pulling me into a hug.
"I'm okay," I said, lightly dabbing at my eyes with a napkin she handed me.
I threw the remaining bottle of water in the trash, then marched out of the bathroom, not letting that small incident ruin the rest of my night.
