THE BOY TOSSED IN HIS sleep waking the girl up once again for the third time this night. Rosie propped her elbows lifting herself up to see what was wrong with the blonde boy who couldn't seem to stop moving around the shared bed. Since his incident, the boy had been sleeping in her separate hut the builders had made for her after the fire. She'd often share it with Ander taking turns on sleeping on the hammocks or in the hut.
Knowing she wasn't going to get rest anytime soon, she sat up, her feet touching the cold floor. Rosie grabbed a washed out brown blanket from the twin bed wrapping it around her trying to make the smallest sound opening the door and quickly heading to the kitchen. She did this every time she couldn't sleep, she'd go to the kitchen pour herself water and look up at the night sky. It'd be one of her tactics to soothe her anxious mind. This time she encountered a boy in his thoughts sitting outside on one of the tables looking up at the sky.
"Want some company?" Rosie asked
Winston glanced to see who was talking to him, he gave the girl a small smile, "it wouldn't hurt."
Rosie climbed up what usually was the seat and sat next to the boy on the table. "Why aren't you sleeping?"
The boy shrugged his shoulders staring at the grass that moved with the wind remembering to Rosie that they put Winston to take care of the new Greenie, "Got used to Chuck keeping me awake through the night so now that he can sleep, I'm wide awake. Why you awake? Lover boy ain't letting you sleep?"
A chuckle came out of the girl's lips, "something like that." Rosie replied wondering when she was going to be able to get out of there. It's been months and there was not much hope left from her. "He's been having trouble sleeping and it just keeps me half awake, half asleep."
"You think we'll get out of here shank?" Winston asked the girl who looked back at him, "a lot of us thought since you'd showed up it was sort of a sign that we were soon getting outta here."
Rosie added to his sentence, "but it's been six months and nothin's changed."
A yawn came out of the boy's mouth as he wiped his tired eyes, "but don't go around blaming yourself though, you do that a lot for no damn reason."
"Good that," Rosie muttered still working on the slang the boys used, taking a sip of her water. "I don't think I can keep watching you guys fall one by one. I swear if you pull a stunt like that, I will bring you back from the dead and kill you myself, you hear me?"
