The train is late. I am left shivering on the platform for another ten minutes of numbing quiet. The clock on the wall is ticking slowly - between the ticking, the thoughts, and the howling of the wind I am the only one on the platform. I run my hand through my hair, my breath fogs as I let out a deep sigh.
It is currently 5 AM.
I have been waiting since one. The quicker the train comes the quicker I can get some sleep before I am bombarded with questions.
Man... has it really been ten years? Ten very, very long years. The moment I got out of school I was shipped off to join the army because dad didn't want to be responsible for me or pay for any further education.
After mom died it was difficult for him. He lost all his love and kindness. Turned into this angry and depressed old man - I guess I didn't help him through it either... I only got into trouble and made everything worse.
He recently bit the bullet and left my sister all alone. At least I should commend him... he managed to only think about himself till the very end. She is still in school, her last year to be exact. She has already paid her first half of the school's tuition with what little money was paid out.
After 9 years of service, I am back, waiting for the morning train home. I can't pay for her tuition and take care of her whilst I am still with the army. This way I can be there and help her whatever way I can and make sure she gets a better future than mine.
I crack my fingers with my thumb; I even missed out on our 10-year reunion. Missed it by a full month to be exact, which is perfectly fine with me. I don't have any friends from school unless we take Alex into consideration.
The only friend that stayed in contact with me despite my transfer to the army. I didn't even plan on coming back - I wanted to spend the rest of my life in the army until I was discharged... but this situation hasn't left me with many choices.
The train finally arrives, its new-age branding plastered all along the walls. Promoting a series of products and celebrities. As the train stops in front of me, I spot a poster of a very popular group of artists.
The doors slide open and I step inside, dropping my duffle bag under the seat, I drop down with a sigh. Rubbing out my eyes, I take my phone and set my alarm for 2 hours from now. The next stop is 2 hours and 30 minutes away.
Then opening my contacts, I hover over Alex's name and then ring his phone. Holding it to my ear I look up at the poster and a smile spreads across my face.
"Ahri... looks like you are doing good for yourself," I then lower my gaze to my feet, "Hey, Alex?"
"What?" he lazily asks, I hear him yawn over the call, "Why'd you wake me up so early for?" it takes him a while then he realized, "Oh! (Y/N)?"
I chuckle, "Hey Alex. Just letting you know I am a few hours away."
"Don't worry about it, man! Damn man, it has been like ten years and I am finally getting to see you again," with a grunt he moves around, "I will be waiting for you at the station, just look for the ginger. See you at the station."
"See you then," I say and then end the call.
Digging it back in my pocket, I then open my duffle bag to grab a scarf to wrap around my neck as I lean into my seat to try and get in some sleep.
