*** Evelynn pov ***
Worry is fear. So now I ask myself Ahri, what is the basis of my fear? Is it foolish of me or is well-founded? Do I act on it or do I leave it to unfold while I wait in the shadows... but what would the consequences of either be?
But on the other hand, I worry because I love you.
Taking a sip from the glass at the bar, the bartender walks up to me, "Another drink, boss?"
I look at him through the corner of my eye, "No thanks, I won't be staying here for long anyway."
He nods and then backs into the back room. Downing the last of my drink, I tap my fingers on the counter as I wait.
"Evie," I turn around as Alex walks through the doors of the club, "What is up?"
"Evie?" I give him a look, as if I am asking 'really?'. "Since when did you start calling me that?"
He shrugs as he digs his hands in his pockets, "Since when do you just call in the morning to meet you at Trinity. We have been out of contact for quite some time... I doubt you asked me to come here to just be friendly," he sits next to me on the stool, "This about (Y/N), isn't it?"
"That obvious? I want to talk to him," I then look at him, his gaze is locked onto his hands, "Before he gets the wrong idea-"
"Wrong idea? About what exactly?" his gaze is stern, "Ahri? If it is about that... don't bother asking him a thing about it, much less try to get those two together."
I tilt my head, "Why? Know something I don't?"
"Yeah. (Y/N)," he then sighs, "He doesn't want anything to do with the two of you anymore," he gives a pained laugh, "I don't know Evelynn. What did you two do for him to just give up on her?"
I rub my temples, "Does it really matter what happened? Right now, both of them are busy crying about each other-"
"Don't you think we should stay out of it then? Maybe this is what they both need. To move on and away from each other. For good," he then rubs his nose with his finger, "We all get distant at times, it is only natural. If they are crying about each other... then it is a clear enough sign to-"
"I didn't come here to discuss philosophy with you, Alex. Give me his number," I order him, shooting a glare.
"Christ woman can't you take the hint? He doesn't want anything to do with the two of you right now. I do not know how much clearer I can make it. I know him, if he decided on it then it is already set in stone. The best we can do is make sure that whatever is left between the two of them isn't just hatred."
"If we do nothing then that is all that would be left."
He then digs his phone out of his pocket, then sliding it over to me, (Y/N)'s contact information is visible from the screen.
"Do as you wish," he warns me, "I am just looking out for my family. Just think about him for a change... doing this you might just be the final push he needs to lose himself and turn out the exact same way he left."
Taking his phone, I dial in the number and save it to my contacts.
Lifting myself off of the barstool I side next to Alex, "Thank you," I then look down at him as he looks at me over his shoulder, "I want to know what he is really feeling. If it comes down to it, then the two of them will walk their own paths by their own accord. I just want to make sure that neither of them regrets the decisions that will be coming their way."
"Right. Whatever Evelynn," he then holds his gaze, "And when something happens beyond his control... will you go to beat him again?"
"Careful Alex."
He then reaches for his phone, lifting himself to his feet, "I am just saying Evelynn... take some time to consider what you are doing," he then brushes the hair from his face, "Was good to see you for a change," he gives me a smile.
I then return his smile, "We should try not to mix business and pleasure or then we might just end up hating each other too."
He laughs, "Really now? So what does looking out for our friends count as?"
"For the sake of our sanity, let us just consider it business and be on with our days."
His smile fades, averting his gaze from me, "Sorry. I am just looking out for him... I don't want to lose him a second time."
I nod, "Neither of us wants to. You may have known him the longest but the two of us still care for him. Even though he was gone."
He then turns to leave, not facing me he says as he makes his way outside, "The things we do for the people we love... right? Here is hoping the best possible outcome for those two."
The doors swing open as he pushes through it, then I am left alone with my thoughts.
Turning back to the bar, leaning into the counter I stare at the number on my phone. This shouldn't be a problem. Ahri said she was over him a very long time ago and now that he has resurfaced... so did her feelings. Is it love or hatred? I am still not clear, because even you don't know, do you?
I smile to myself as I call him; the things we do for our loved ones.
"(Y/N)."
"Hey... it's Evelynn. Can you talk?"
"Listen, Eve-"
"Are you going to run away already?" I interrupt him.
He sighs, "I'm not going anywhere."
"Then?" I push for more information, "I'm hearing you out."
"We.... should let things stay as is. Right now it wouldn't be fair for me to come into her life right now or at least I should give her time to warm up to the thought of me being around."
"What are you trying to say? Be blunt I don't work well with beating around the bush."
"Me and Ahri. Is not going to work."
"Even if it doesn't work (Y/N)... the very least the two of you can do is rekindle your friendship-"
He in turn interrupts me, "You don't get it to do you. She doesn't want anything to do with me - you weren't there so you won't understand."
"Can you even be certain about that?"
The call grows quiet, he then finally whispers into the call, "What other choice do I have? From where I am sitting one of us is bound to get hurt, I don't want it to be either of us," not allowing me to say anything else, "Goodbye, thanks for trying anyway."
The call goes quiet.
"Fuck."
Is the only way I can respond to what just happened. Resting my head in between my hands; isn't that always the case? You can get hurt with everything you do, with everything you pursue... you know that. Is this because you are afraid?
Oh. Right. That is why... I can't believe I forgot about the reason this all happened in the first place.
I then tilt my head to the side as I look at the time. Guess I have to leave, this is such a pain.
