"What are these called?" Leigh asked, while munching on some sort of sweet food.
"They're called cupcakes. Mortals love them. You did too," Jade answered, smiling at her friend's reaction to her former favourite food.
"Don't eat too many though, it's bad for you," she warned when she saw Leigh grabbing her third one from the tray.
Leigh knitted her eyebrows together, biting into the cupcake. "Why make them if they're bad for you?" She wondered.
Jade shurgged, not really understanding it herself. She stood up, walking over to Leigh to sit down next to her. The bed they were sitting on was lit up with fairy lights, that Leigh had hung up the day before.
"Why'd you even put them up?" Jade asked, refering to the fairy lights.
Leigh swallowed the last of her cupcake, before answering. "They remind me of home. I had some in my room back in heaven," she explained.
Jade nodded, understandingly. "Do you miss heaven?" She wondered, biting her lip slightly from nerves. Jade was never nervous about anything since they met, so this worried Leigh-Anne.
"Uhm, yeah. I miss my friends too," she said, looking at her hands.
"What's heaven like?" Jade queried. She may have known lots about hell and earth, but she didn't know much about heaven aside from stories she'd hear from other demons.
Leigh sighed, blissfully. She enjoyed talking about her home and her friends. "It's always sunny. There's never any bad weather at all. We have animals like dogs, horses and other cute ones," she began to giggle, making Jade's heart flutter.
"The horses are unicorns once they enter heaven. I adopted one, called it Amelia for some reason, and now she lives on my balcony," she laughed.
Jade frowned, after giggling with her. "Amelia, huh?"
Leigh nodded. "I honestly don't know why I named her that. Guess it was just random," she shrugged.
"Yeah, totally random," Jade mumbled, her mood suddenly dull.
Leigh, not noticing the drop in Jade's tone, continued talking about her home with as much passion as she could. "I have a friend there. His name is Zayn and he's really handsome," she said, placing her hand above her heart.
Jade visibly cringed as Leigh began talking about Zayn's abs, eyes and tattoos. "I can see you're rather...passionate about talking about men, huh?" Jade commented, still wearing an uncomfortable expression.
Leigh turned to her, smiling sheepishly. "Yeah, sorry 'bout that," she apologized, clearing her throat. She then noticed the tension in the room, so thick, you could cut the air with a knife. "what's wrong?" She asked.
Jade stirred, uncomfortably in her seat, shaking her head. "Guess it's just 'cause I can't relate. I'm not really into men," she laughed, awkwardly.
Leigh smiled. "You're gay?" Her tone didn't have a hint of judgement in it, which Jade was grateful for.
"I guess. I don't really like labelling myself though. I'm attracted to women, but not men. I believe that love goes beyond attraction though, you know? Love is all about the connection you build with someone over time, regardless of gender. That's all just my opinion of course" she explained.
Leigh nodded, agreeing. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head, and a smirk made it's way over to her face. "Who have you had a crush on? Like, what's you type?" She asked.
Jade rolled her eyes. "I don't know. I don't really have a type,"
"Oh come on, you must have! Just name someone, please," Leigh begged, much to Jade's dismay.
"I've had a lot of crushes," Jade admitted, shrugging.
"Like?" Leigh pestered, dragging out the word.
Jade sighed, loudly. "Just some friends and celebrities. It really doesn't fucking matter," she snapped.
Leigh stopped taking. Some minuets of awkward silence passed, feeling like hours, before Jade finally spoke up. "We should go to sleep now," she mumbled.
Leigh nodded, silently. She laid down on the comfortable bed, resting her head on the pillow. No matter how soft the pillow was, it couldn't ease the tension between herself and Jade. She was worried that if she set Jade off in some way, that would be the end to everything.
Jade laid down on the wooden floor, her back facing Leigh. It didn't look very comfortable, and Jade's groans confirmed her assumption. She went to ask her why she was sleeping on the floor, but decided against asking any more questions.
Why Is she being so nice to me? I thought all demons were horrible, but she's so kind. I probably shouldn't trust her, but there's something about her drawing me in that I can't explain. Those thoughts went through her mind, before she fell into a dreamless sleep.
Not before saying one last thing though. "Goodnight, Jade,"
She didn't get a response though, or at least, not one she expected. Coming from the upset girl, were small sniffles. Leigh just tried to sleep, ignoring the loud voice in her head telling her to ask what was wrong.
