Leigh's POV
I was so afraid to do anything with Jade. At the start, I contemplated running away from her, scared of what she would do to me, considering she was a demon. I started to wonder what she had done to earn her this fate. She looked so pure, so fragile and calm, yet so reserved, scared and...secretive.
Surely if we had been best friends, she would have no hesitaton telling me everything about her. Right?
We flew above the clouds, our wings fully freed from any restrictions. I missed this feeling, feeling like nothing could harm me. I had that feeling when I was with Jade, and I couldn't quite explain it. It was as if I had some kind of connection to her.
"You alright there, Lele?" Jade asked, flying on her back, underneath me. I nodded in response, giggling at her pulling funny faces.
"We should be there soon," she informed me, before gliding over to my side. "Wanna race me?" She smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "That's unfair and you know it! You demons are way faster than me!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, so you're too intimidated by my greatness?" She wiggled her eyebrows, causing me to laugh out loud.
"You're on!" I said while already taking off.
"Hey! No head starts!" Jade shouted.
--
"So, you're from England?" We met three women while we were out exploring California. Ariana, Demi and Billie.
"Yeah," Jade answered Ariana.
I was so glad that Jade was with me, otherwise I wouldn't have known what to say. I mentally thanked myself for not running away when we first met ... again.
"Leigh's from high Wycombe originally, but she moved to South shields with her family when she was a baby. We were neighbours for a while," I tried not to seem as interested in the conversation as I was, in order to not cause suspicion.
"Oh wow, that's so cool! I've always wanted to go to England," Billie said. "Leigh, what's it like?" I froze in my seat. I had no idea what I should say!
"Uhm, I kind of like ... The ..." I could tell that Jade was equally as nervous of what I was going to say as I was. I cleared my throat. "There's so much to say, I don't know what to say,"
"Didn't you say you liked the ocean view the most?" I let out a sigh of relief. Thank goddess for this woman.
"Yes, I love the ocean! It's so beautiful," I said, silently thanking her by grabbing her hand and giving it a light squeeze. Her eyes widened, and she pulled her hand away. Had I just crossed a line? Crap.
"Same! You guys should go to New York. It has a beautiful ocean view," Demi suggested. I nodded in agreement.
"We should definitely go there. How about tomorrow?" I asked, directing my question at Jade.
Jade turned to me. "Maybe in like two days? I want to go somewhere else with you tomorrow, if that's okay?" She admitted.
I nodded, excitedly. I wanted to explore the whole world with Jade.
"Oh, one last thing before we have to go. There's a really cool night club here, it's having a party tonight if you wanna come with us," Ariana offered.
Me and Jade looked at each other, and shrugged. "Sure," Jade accepted.
--
"What do you think of this?" Jade asked me, pointing at an oversized hoodie. "It's baggy enough to hide your wings from people," she explained.
