                                                                   Chapter One-Stuck in Hell

It had been two days. Two days since Valentine had taken them with him, two days since Olivia had last seen her friends, two days since she and Jace had been living on this god-awful ship --where there was nothing except death and destruction--and two days since the world--their world, at least-- had been ripped apart into chaos.

There was no escaping this chaos and darkness, Olivia had accepted that--and she knew Jace had too-- but because of each other, the two had still managed to remain sane.

Every night,  while Valentine and his army slept, the two spent time together--sometimes on the railing of the ship, and sometimes in the small comfort of their rooms-- and talked about things, things that brought them peace, things that erased the horrors that they had seen on this ship, things that eased their minds and made them forget the reality of their lives.

It was only in those few moments that they could find peace, could forget about everything else, and be not Valentine's pawns but their own selves.

Jace and Olivia. Olivia and Jace. Two people who knew each other better than anyone else.

''Stop!'' Olivia ran into the downworlder prison room, her breathing hard and her eyes wide as they landed on Jace's weak figure. ''God.'' Her stomach dropped as she took in the boy's state. He had been stripped of his shirt and his torso was now covered not only in runes but also in large--and deep--red cuts and bruises. His arms were hanging above his head, chained tightly to the ceiling, and water was dripping down his bare chest.

Olivia hissed and clenched her jaw. She knew that Valentine's men were torturing Jace--Valentine had told her about it himself-- but she hadn't known the extinct to which they were hurting him.

''Stop it right now!'' she shouted and stormed towards them.

Jace's torturers turned towards Olivia and sneered at her as she came to a stop between them and Jace. ''Move out of the way, girl.'' one of the men said. ''Or we will make you.''

''Don't you dare!'' Jace shouted and lifted his head up to glare at the men. Blood was pouring from his mouth and his whole body was burning with pain, but it didn't matter to him. All he cared about was protecting Olivia.  ''Don't touch her or I swear I'll-''

''You'll what?'' the second man scoffed and dropped the empty bucket that he was holding to the ground.  ''Hurt us? You can't. You can't do anything except watch as we grab your sister-''

Jace grunted and furiously grappled against the chains, wanting nothing more than to rip the men's throats apart. ''You won't. '' Olivia said. She knew they were saying all of this only to get a reaction out of Jace. She also knew that they wouldn't touch her; she was the daughter of their leader and if they harmed her,  they would invoke Valentine's fury onto themselves. Olivia supposed it was good in a sort of twisted way. ''You don't have the guts for that.''
