Chapter Eight- Hunt or Be Hunted.
All Ian wanted to do was to punch something--a wall or the punching bag that was in the training room-- until his knuckles bled and his hands became numb--it was the only way he could vent out his anger for Valentine and for himself--but instead of doing that, he was, along with Alec and Clary, walking down a noisy street, hunting for a demon that was randomly killing the people of New York.
''Most important thing, don't slow me or Ian down. You slow us down, you get all three of us killed.'' Alec told Clary as they continued to walk down the street.
''Sounds reasonable,'' Clary murmured nervously.
''Don't take him literally,'' Ian said once he saw the nervous look on her face.
Alec gave him a look, ''I mean it, Ian. If she slows us down, we'll be dead before you could say demon pox.''
Ian sighed and closed his eyes. He wished Olivia was here with them--she had gone to visit Jace, Clary had told him that much--she would have been able to protect Clary from Alec's unnecessary harshness. Hell, even Izzy--originally, she had been with them too, but she had to take the body of a victim back to the Institute for further investigation and that's why it was only the three of them now--would have been able to stop Alec from being harsh to cLARY.
''I am not scaring her...''
''You are...unknowingly, doing just that.''
''I--''
''Ian,'' Clary cut, not wanting the quarrel between the two brothers to increase, and gave Ian a grateful look, ''It's okay. I'm fine.''
She was not fine, Ian could see that-- having grown closer to her, he could always see and read her emotions--but choose not to comment on it.
Alec suddenly stopped, causing the rest two to stop too, and pulled out his stele before turning towards Clary. ''Here,'' he took her hand in his own and quickly drew a very familiar rune on the back of her hand.
''What's this for?'' she asked.
''Let's you see the demon's heat signature.''
Clary slowly blinked and then inhaled sharply as her vision suddenly became very bright. ''Whoa,'' she breathed and again blinked, trying her hardest to focus on her surroundings and also on the heat signature--she honestly had no idea what it was, she was just trying to follow Alec's instructions--of the demon that they were hunting for.
''First time can be sensory overload,'' Ian said helpfully.
'' The trick is to focus. Try to filter out everything unimportant, hone in on the heat signature.'' Alec instructed.
''Yeah, yeah, I'm honing, I'm just not seeing anything.''
''Patience,''
Clary scoffed and looked at Alec, ''Easy for you to say...''
