Chapter Fourteen--Bleeding Hearts

''Well.....that was something.'' Magnus drawled.

Tessa glared at him and smacked him on his arm, causing him to yelp. ''You idiot.'' she hissed, ''We had agreed to not--''

''Uh--no,'' Magnus cut her off while rubbing his arm, '' I hadn't agreed to Jocelyn's words. In fact, as I recall, I had told her that if the situation demanded it, I would tell Olivia the entire truth, which I did.''

''Jesus Christ, Magnus, there was a much better way to tell Olivia she had Lilth's blood.''

Jace ignored the argument going on between the two warlocks and stared at the spot where Olivia had last been before she ran off. She had been scared, he had seen that in her eyes-- scared of herself, scared of their reactions, scared of the fact that she had done something that she shouldn't have been able to do.

Jace understood that.

He also cursed himself for freezing like an ice sculpture when he had seen her doing magic. It wasn't because he had felt scared of Olivia (which is what she probably thought to be true), but because he had been awstruck by her--by her light. She had looked like an angel, with her hair flowing mystically around her and her hands glowing with light.

She had looked like someone who should be worshipped--she was someone to be worshipped, with or without her powers.

Tessa's voice cut through Jace's thoughts, ''The poor girl must be afraid out of her mind, Magnus! I know you were helping her, but think this through Olivia's view. She's probably scared of the fact that she has Lilth's blood in her.''

Jace sighed. Tessa was right, but Olivia had to know that her having Lilith's blood didn't matter, not to him nor to anyone else here--he could tell that much by seeing the concern on everyone's face.

It was going to be very diffcult for her to come to terms with the fact that she had Lilth's blood (and his heart broke for her as he thought about the pain she must be in), and Jace was going to do his best in helping Olivia through this.

''I am going to find her.'' he and Clary spoke together, causing the two warlocks to stare at them in surprise.

''I am coming with you guys,'' Simon added, worry for Olivia gnawing at his heart.

Ian frowned and sat up straight. ''What the hell is going on? Why did Liv run out like that?'' he asked and then massaged his forehead. His head was throbbing and he felt as if someone was putting a nail inside his brain. It was....painful and annoying, to say the least. What annoyed him even more was that he, for the love of his life, couldn't understand why all of them were looking at him with....sympathy.

''Ian,'' Clary kneeled next to him and took his hand in her own. Her hand was so tiny--so delicate-- compared to his, but her grip, god her grip was the only thing that was keeping Ian steady. ''Ian, it's okay,'' she spoke in a gentle tone, as if talking to a solider who had just returned from battle, ''You are okay.''

''What happened here?'' he again asked, his lips trembling with a sudden tiredness.

You don't remeber, Jem spoke into his head, his voice softer than usual.

''I last thing I remember is---'' Ian paused, scratching his memory for something---anything that would help him in making sense of whatever was going on. ''Me getting angry over the fact that Stephen--''

We will talk about that later, Jem hurriedly replied.

Clary frowned at the way Jem dismissed the topic and so did Jace, but his mind was too focused on Olivia for him to question Jem about his dismal of Ian's situation. '' I am going after her--''
