Requisite

"You have twenty minutes." The guard told us stone faced and void of emotion.

I made sure there was no trace of fear in my eyes. I needed to be strong. Dev had been a wreck all morning. He tried to hide it, but failed miserably. It was written all over his face. "I can't do this." He panicked.

"Yes you can. Now calm the fuck down, man the fuck up and c'mon." I tightened my grip on his arm and practically dragged him into the room with me. He hadn't changed much over the years. He still looked like I remembered him.

"So, how have you been? Are you enjoying your extended vacation?" I asked with an almost grin.

"Smartass." He cracked a smile.

"You see you daughter for the first time in almost a decade and the first thing you do is call her a smartass?" I put my hand over my heart for dramatic effect.

"You see your father for the first time in almost a decade and the first thing you do is be a smartass?" He shot back.

"Touché." A small smile played on my lips. Silence fell upon us. I cleared my throat. "So, uh, funny story actually, I seemed to have misplaced some money. You wouldn't happen to have any suggestions as too where I should look would you?" I made my question vague.

He raised his eyebrows. "How much?"

"Alot actually and there's a lot of people who want it, so I should really find it before they do."

"Ah. I see. That really is unfortunate, but I can't help. I apologize."

Cue my what the fuck face.

He changed the subject quick. "Have you ever been down to the far end of the lake? You should try it." With that he slapped his hands on the table and stood up. "I believe that's all the time I have. Come back and see me will ya? Please don't take ten years this time." He gave us a smile and then walked away.

Me and Devon shared a look. "Let's go take a swim."
